Aero kit on the 128i?

What are people's take on the aero kit on the 128i? I've done a bit of research and what I initially thought was making a 128i looking like a 135i, is actually quite off. Thoughts?

The aero kit (as listed on the BMW website under parts for something around $1500 if I'm not mistaken) is not the same as the stuff on the 135i. The rear bumper is (instead of the flat bumper of the 128i you get the black diffuser (cosmetic only) on the bottom). However, the front and side skirts are different. The front is the tii bumper (search google images for the look), and so are the side skirts.

You can get other parts to make the 128i look like the 135i. The front of the 135i looks more aggressive than the tii (most agree on this), but I think tii looks better than 135i front bumper (just my opinion).

You can check this out for the front/side of the tii look. And no, it won't have "tii" written on it, nor will it have that hole in the bumper..

Hope that helps!

I dont really understand the concept of trying to make a 128i look like a 135, I mean if you wanted to look like a 135 so bad you should have just gotten the 135, because by the time your done making your 128 look like a 135 you would have spent close to the same amount of money you would spend on buying a 135.

Maybe they like the 135i body kit but didn't want the turbos.

I'm just trying to figure that out as well. I've seen a tii bumper from close by, and it has absolutely no space for the fog lights; so you'll have to leave it out. But I don't know what happens in your dash; if its going to give you a light for dead fog light? I might drop by my local dealer tomorrow and find out.

Someone on this site (do a search) installed a European aero bumper on his 128i with the european (round) foglights. It looked pretty good, and IIRC it installed with few issues. I think Dan at United hooked him up with the part.

Ulrichd installed the 135i bumper on his 128i, not the aero bumper. He put the round foglights on that european cars have.

I am getting the aero bumper on my 128i. The instructions for the aero kit say the foglights cannot be fitted with it. There are steps in the installation instructions to re-code the car to remove the foglights. Not sure how it will look in the dashboard but it should look as if you never had foglights.

EDIT: PDF added. take a look at the message at the bottom of the first page. Also look at the last steps at the end of the document and they talk aobut re-coding the car to remove the foglights.

You'll need to tie up the electrical wires and bulbs somewhere as well. They just twist off from the foglights as shown in the pic below.

i would consider putting the aero kit on a 128 if i got one. i can see preferring the 128 for fuel economy, more usable & linear power, save a little cash, but would definitely want to replace the bumper and if youre in that position i think it makes more sense to get the aero over the sports.

anyone know if the front aero kit would line up with the stock sideskirts? ulrich you got the performance side skirts right?

I've been following his progress on his car, and as far as I remember he doesn't have the performance side skirts.

And regarding it lining up with the stock sideskirts, it works fine. At my local stealership they have a 128i Sport with the performance front and rear bumpers, along with the stock sides. Looks nice.

I could be wrong but from what I see on bmwusa.com you can't get the M-Sport Package for the 128i it's just offered for the 135i. I wish I was wrong....

Correct, only the tii style aero bumper is available for the 128 as an option on bmwusa.com. But that's not what he's talking about.

For comparison, this is the aero bumper:

As of March production you can order the 128 with the m sport package.

It has not been updated on the US website.

They have always had this in Europe.
