Heated seats too hot?

I've only had my 1er just over a month, but with the chilly temps outside I've been able to try out the heated seats several times. Even on the single light setting - it's freakin' hot! I can only stand having it on for a few minutes at most.

Whether wearing jeans or dockers, it feels the same - too hot. It gets so hot I can't imagine even putting on the second or third setting. I have heated leather seats in my other car and don't have the same issue.

Is this normal or is it possible it's defective?

No they are way too hot. I have em on the 1 light setting most of the time. Maybe 2 lights on chilly days. But 3? When would you ever need to use that?

I use three until they heat up, and then I turn them to 1 or off...

Love the seats, too! I tend to use setting 1 or 2, but I noticed the ladies tend to like number 3. My first impression was, "how can BMW get away with these getting this hot?" Now I appreciate the fact that they can, even if I don't use it.

Another great feature is that they stay on! I've been in other cars where you need to keep hitting the button every 10 minutes. Plus, these remember their setting for a little while after locking the car, running into a store or something, and getting back in the car. Probably something to do with that ~16 minute complete shutdown timeout. Very smart.

When the heaters burn through the leather and your clothes (see early E60s), it's too hot.

I'm glad to see someone else mention this. I thought it was just me. Yes, those things are scorching! I can only turn it on to 1 for a couple of minutes until it takes the chill off, then I have to turn it off. WAY to hot! I wonder if this is adjustable through the ECU?

Mine are perfectly comfortable on the low setting. If yours are still too hot with only one light on, I'd have them looked at. The controller isn't working right.

The seat in my wife's SAAB destroyed her vinyl coat - so I've never ordered them (except on a motorcycle). Even with the top down, the 1er's heater does a fine job of warming things up.
