Porsches
I really want to like them, I really do. But I just cant* for some reason, great handling, solid, reliable cars as they are.
Anyone else feel the same? *Apart from the CGT Last edited by Alext; 03-04-2009 at 09:47 PM.. |

No, love em! Nearly bought a 911 instead of the 135. However, glad I didn't (from a financial point of view) as I kept a C4S very honest at Eastern Creek last week and he was on very fat track tyres

I sort of agree with Alext. I appreciate everything about them and what makes them a great car, but the interiors look like they have been designed like a 10yr old and they just don't stand out. Seen one porsche, you've seen them all.
I think I also like the look of the Cayman better than the 911. But if I am going to spend super-car money, your Porsche $$$ don't look the same as the other Marques. |

Love the look of the 911. Can't get into the look of the Cayman or particularly the girly looking Boxster, though it's sounds like they drive very nicely!
I used to love sitting on the @rse of $200K+ 911s at the track while in my modded $10K E30 325 on 195/60/14 inch tyres. Couldn't get near them on the straights but braking & cornering was another story.

Love Porsche! But I havent driven anything else then a tuned full specced Cayenne turbo which I had as a company car for some weeks.. Even tho i hate SUVs it was a fun car offroad actualy. And close to 500hp worked on the well as long as I didnt have to turn...
But do all Porsches have as terrible interior quality as the Cayenne?

Depends mostly on the driver i belive! I have Autocrossed with the Porsche club, and it was alot of good cars and drivers there. And the 996 GT2`s worked WERY well! No need to tell that they beat me?:P But atleast i wasnt last even tho i had half of the power of some of those behind me.

This will probably ruffle a few feathers , for while I love my 135 , my 7 year old boxster is still the superior drive , sure the boxster wont see where the 135 has gone in a straight line but show them some winding back roads and its the boxster that has the composure and feel that shows where the extra dollars go , dont get me wrong the 135 still represents great bang for the bucks but its no porsche

I think the cayman s with the 911 turbo wheels is sick and a more realistic price...

I own a Lotus and the closest thing to this in terms of being a 'drivers car' would be a Porsche sub $200k. This is why I *want* to like Porsche. I do find myself being constantly put off by the bland interior and exterior styling however. Porsche please design something more characterful, you were on the right track with the Cayman. Take a leaf out of TVR's interior design book, just skip the pages about using superglue and paperclips to hold stuff on.
The 135i just does not compare unfortunately. Its intended purpose is not a sports car, so one cannot really expect it to. |

I for one love Porsches, sure they are really expensive and not to much bang for your bucks, but they drive amazingly good. I specially like the new Cayman and since they are going to make a special track version I bet it will even be better, also the GT3, well that has to be one the best cars ever made.

I don't think we can be too down on the interior of the 911; the 1 isn't exactly a design classic! Function over form.
