Question concerning warranty for US owner in Canada
I'm a US citizen, bought my 135i in the US and I've had it here for a while now but I may have to spend some time in Canada and considering bringing the car with me.
My main concern right now is about the HPFP failing. If that happens while I'm in Canada, can I bring it to a dealer in Canada and get warranty work done there or does the warranty only apply to the US? |

Have you imported the car? Or do you still have visitor status? You should be aware that if they catch a Candian citizen driving your car before it has been formally imported - it will get impounded and held ransom for GST, Duty and Excise. If and when do do decide to import it, it will have to go through a Canadian CSA retrofit, including speedometer, and some other items, the day running lights will have to be re-programmed.
As for BMW, I doubt if the full US Warranty is valid in Canada, as BMW Canada does not cover the wear items like belts, hoses, brake pads and wiper blades. If you plan to stay here awhile, you might want to consider selling it in the US and buying one in Canada. |

I won't be importing it. I plan on keeping my US plates on it since I'll be a student for less than a year doing my masters. After that I plan on returning to the US. I might just leave it in the US or only bring it up for a little.
I'm not really concerned with the maintenance - I know there's differences between the US and Canadian one. I'm worried about warranty work, if something goes horribly wrong. |

BMW "NA" North America ... I have brought cars from the us into canada (A Z4 last summer) was not a problem, when i brought it to the dealership to have them "convert the car to canadian standards" the noticed a broken wheel bearing and just replaced it under warranty.
So usa, canada .... should not be a problem! I'll let you know for sure ... I'm going to canada this weekend and will go speak to a local dealer! |
