Why white?

It seems that White is the official color for the 135i and I am wondering if anyone knows how this happened. It seems that all of the offical BMW photos were that weird orange/red color, but then white became the official color for the Tii. All of the tuners seem to only use white 1's to show off their products. It also seems like many members have white as well...

The Alpine White seems to look the best on 135. Conversely - I love Metallic Titanium Silver on a Z4 or a 3 series but for some reason it doesn't look as nice on a 1 series.

White is the new black.
Alpine white is a timeless classic BMW color next to Jet Black, Bright/Crimson Red, Titanium Silver Metallic, etc.

Least Controversial. I've noticed lately that most cars (in general) are grey, silver, white, black, beige. Color seems to be a no no... Mine's Crimson Red

White has historically been the color that represents German motorsports. That may have something to do with it.

I think its because the white washes out some of the less flattering aspects of the 1ers design. It changes the lighting contrast on the creases, waves, and edges and enhances the car's haunches, which is one of its better characteristics.

Same here. I never considered AW till I saw mine in the showroom, and it just stood out. I had black before, which is great for the 3series but not really as much for the 1series. Sedona Red is cool, and Blue is cool. But white seems to be the new "sports car" color.

White's a blank canvas so it gives you a great amount of flexibility in terms of highlighting different aspects of the car or different mods. From a marketing standpoint, AW makes all those performance parts pop out. Can't say why buyers prefer it except for one major point -

Because they discontinued Sparkling Graphite Metallic.

for me white has been my favorite. But the last few cars were not (last 6 come to think of it) but when I saw the AW and that black diffuser - it just looked right - the AW makes is stand out..love the rear of the 1er

plus, white car with tinted windows, all cleaned up is a great look IMO.

White is the easiest color to keep clean, stays cooler in hot climates like TX, NM, AZ, NV... Looks awesome with a dark tint.

My last car was white and no matter how much I abused it by not washing, waxing, etc, it always looked great!

With my 135i I went BSM for a change. But now I'm the guy in the driveway wiping QD on the car every morning. Still... I'm glad I have BSM. Ask me again in another year.

A combination of reasons I think. The car wears it well. Relative ease of maintenance compared to the darker colors. And for the budget conscious, no metallic paint upcharge.

When I bought my car, the dealer had an Alpine/Savannah/Grey Pop '08 leftover as well as the car that I bought (BWM/Savannah/Grey Pop). They were identically optioned except the Alpine car didn't have IPOD/USB and my car didn't have Sirius. The white car looked great and I really struggled with deciding which one to claim. In the end I liked the individuality of the BWM car and went that direction, but I think I would have been equally happy with the white.

Alpine = in my book.

Why not create a poll and see the percentages for each color ?

I think the flame surface design so charateristic of Bangle is toned down quite a bit in the Alpine White. It is a love or hate design and I think it's a lot more digestible in the neural white. Plus the various black/chrome items (e.g. rear difuser, grill, etc.) stand out better. I am increasingly seeing it more and more on all new BMWs, not just 1-series. In fact over 50% of the M3s I see are AW!

I went with the SGM as it was discontinued after 08 and felt that may make the car and color more unique (truly a Yr 1 of the 1). I don't think there is a bad color for the 1-series, I think my fave is LeMans as it reminds me of the E39M5

I was originally planning to go with Jet black, Lemans Blue or Metallic Black, but seeing them in the showroom didn't impress me a whole lot. The lines of the car just seemed to flow better with a white car. Also, I didn't have to pay the $800 (cdn) fee for metallic paint, it's one of the easier colors to keep clean and doesn't show scratches and dings as much.

I've never owned a white car before. All the cars I was cross shopping I would not have even considered in white (G37, 370z, STI, Evo) but for some reason it looks really nice on a 135i.

agreed. I would have got white (my previous bimmer was white) if SGM had not been offered. Would probably get LeMans Blue now that it is offered.

For AZ White is the Color. For Chicago, it has to be Blue Water. JK. I was not sure about the Color when my wife picked it, but I really am liking it now with the Black top.
