How did you handle the anticipation?
For those of you who ordered your new BMW and had to wait 6 weeks for delivery, how did you handle the anticipation? I recently placed an order for an AW 135i with SB interior. I still have over 5 weeks to wait and I'm already going nuts.

I purchased a model from the dealer and squinted a lot.
I also lived on here and read every post. Literally, EVERY post. Twice. A day.

I tracked it like a mad man, on the BMW site and on the various ship tracking sites, at the same time as I was hassling my CA.

I had a copy of the accessories cataloge, the sales cataloge. And I built my car hundreds of time on BMW's website.

6 weeks? I've been waiting nearly 5 months!
Keep busy I say, the more you take your mind off it the less you anticipate :-) |

Well, when I ordered mine a year ago, I called and checked the order status about twice a day, every day, for a month. Have fun!

I was at the dealer building a 3 series when I saw a 1251 coupé being driven into the showroom. it was the first time I saw "Live" the 1 series coupé. it was love at first sight. I asked the dealer how much time would it take to order one as I presumed the one in front of my eyes is for someone else, the dealer smiled and said "this one is available, I ordered it for the showroom, you can take it right away or otherwise you'll have to wait 6 to 8 months in order to get a BTO one. I couldn't believe my ears. of course, the car was not exactly as I wanted it to be but I preferred to go out that door with that car anyways. 5000 km so far. pure joy.

Start planning and buying your mods. Read all the DIYs. Get a nice camera, learn how to use it, scope out some great locations to pics of your new ride in. Rebuild your garage to be suitable for the new baby. There's lots of ways you can fill the time preparing for the ultimate driving machine.

I have 15 weeks to wait for a 128i Euro Delivery. I spend my time planning all of the details of the trip, learning about the cities that we will visit, planning each tourist stop, looking for more interesting sights to see, adding more toys to the order (ZMP), reserving tickets for tours, improving my German vocabulary, and reading 1ADDICTS.

I only had to wait two weeks as they found one "on the boat" that they were able to take into their inventory from another dealer. That being said, two weeks nearly killed me. I think I checked the new posts on this site at least once every few minutes; I've seen every youtube vid there is; read faq's on better shifting practices. It was definitely a lesson in patience, or rather learning that I have none lol. good luck!

Those of us who were waiting BEFORE they even started production had the REAL wait.
Here's how mine went. September 2007: Deposit placed, 3rd on the allocation list. December 2007: Withdrew Deposit (Thought I was buying a house) March 2008: Car Ordered for Euro Delivery. After I had ordered the car, the real wait began. I downloaded the M3 Driving Challenge, played a LOT of Gran Turismo: Prologue, and planned my trip to Europe. May 29th 2008: Picked up my car in Munich and drove around for a week before dropping it in Amsterdam. This was the SUPER hard wait, I had already gotten a taste of my car, but now had to wait another 2 months ALL OVER AGAIN! To top it off, I was doing PCD and their schedule was booked so I had to wait an extra week or two after my car got to the Performance Center. August 2008: Almost a year after everything stated, I get my car Reading these forums while you wait will drive you crazy with anticipation, I promise

My dad took me to the dealer lot at about 1am...I had just came back from a trip to Puerto Rico (put roofs on houses). We got out of the car. My dad handed me a Maglight and the first thing that caught my eye was the glimmer of my moonlight top. I looked at that car for 15 minutes through the fence before I realized that it was after 1am. Just proving the point...

Lots of good advice in this thread. The worse is having to wait after experiencing your car during Euro Delivery. I had to wait for 8 weeks for re-delivery.

I handled the wait about as badly as any other 19-year-old. (My mental age. Between deposit in November'07 and delivery the first week of April '08 my chronological age was 72. But who's counting?) That's what waiting for a new car will do to an enthusiast driver. Like so many others, I turned to all the tracking tools and knew where my car was to within hours of its arrival. You'll probably find yourself doing much the same, leavening the frustration of waiting with the fun of following your car through production, shipping, and preparation. Good luck.

Same here, it's such a tease to have the car for those ~10 days then have to wait another 2 months

Seems to me that car itself easily makes the anticipation worthwhile. You might also use some of the time to plan a break-in trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Enjoy! Tom |
