DTC = Full of win for daily driving.
I've been switching on dynamic traction control every time I drive for the last few days and wow the car is so much more fun to drive this way. The regular TC has really been punishing me especially with the extra power from the Dinan Stage 2. With DTC on the car pulls quite a bit harder and I feel quite a bit more control. I'm pretty sure the normal TC was constantly controlling the throttle when I drove hard before. With DTC on, it seems to give me a bit more play without letting things get dangerous. I really wish I could force DTC to be on by default. The only time I'd want to have the regular TC on is when it rains.
Anyone else feel the same way? I'm sure some of you like to turn off the whole DSC system, but I'm not that brave.

Am I the only one who drives with DTC on?

Since I installed the JB3 I found that first gear is useless with all the TC on. If I have to pull out into traffic fairly quick the rear break traction and the computer shuts me down.

I leave it all on because if I turn any of it off the light up displays in the dash bother me.
On one occasion, I noticed it doing it's job. I was wanting to go aggressive around a corner, and noticed the DTC flash at me in the dash. I assume that means it was "helping."

You're not the only one...we've had this discussion (be it argument) in the past. Agreed it's a bit of a hindrance, I can imagine even more so with JB+. Although I remain in support of leaving gizmos enabled on a daily basis, I respect where DSC gets in the way creating unexpected results. If you're being aggressive and expect a subtle, controllable slide, the abrupt cut-off can be a dangerous surprise...especially if trying to quickly enter fast-moving traffic. If conditions permit, I'd much rather juggle the slide then fight the car for more power. Agreed, though...it pulls much harder when it's deactivated. Just be careful is all, and don't be "that C@CK" driving a BMW.

Y put DSC and DTC OFF every time I go to road "hard", by pushing more than 3 seconds on DTC button.
For me, is the way for have fun and drive sportly. When DSC and DTC are off, the electronic differential keep ON. Off cause, you have to dicover it carrefully. I have tested the 3 modes en circuit and road, con rain and without... |

I'm a french guy (living in Spain): sure that I have another culture of the car riding... but I agree with your carrefull driving method, too.

I also like to use DTC most of the time for spirited driving. I've had a few occasions while pulling out into traffic that DSC has shut the power on me when I needed to get going in a hurry - felt like a sitting duck. In DTC it doesn't shut you down so abruptly. I plan to experiment more with it all the way off when I get the summer tires back on.

Just be careful.
Having spun my 1er twice (not on public roads) when traction control was disabled I would suggest against shutting everything down in public. If you manage to swing the backend around you had better be awake or you're going for a ride. |

I am surprised. Perhaps this is because I'm 44 years old? I always drived without these electronic assistances and that does not pose any problem. Of course, carreful with rain but on dry, no problem with this powerful but flexible engine.

I also have the Dinan Stage 2 w/ intake and exhaust and there's absolutely NO point in having all that extra power UNLESS you disable the nanny controls. The stock DSC/DTC will shut you down immensely if you goose the throttle, making your mods completely moot. The only time I use DTC is if there's snow, and I leave everything alone when it's raining. But if conditions are dry, I ALWAYS turn it ALL off.. I feel that it's safer that way, because I've also been bogged down trying to make a quick left turn into oncoming traffic and the computer cut my power/hit the brakes (or whatever it does?) nearly causing an accident. If you are experienced and can control a slight fish-tail, I believe it's safer to be able to put the power to the asphalt with a little wheel-spin, versus having the computer slam on the brakes.

Yes, but only to a certain degree in my experience. (Others can chime in here?) DTC will allow *some* wheel slippage, but the controls will kick in at a certain point. That's why DTC is good in the snow, because without *any* slippage, it's pretty darn hard to get anywhere. But it won't necessarily allow you to get completely sideways unless you're really trying hard to do so.

Is the DTC in the 135i standard or an upgrade of some sort? Sorry for lack of knowledge, planning to buy a 135i in about 2 months.

Oh really? Now I feel like an idiot lol I've never noticed it, I haven't driven a BMW in a while, my mom has a 328, I do remember seeing the DTC button now that I think about it.
