Filters: Macht Schnell vs AFE oiled
For those of you wondering about differences between these two filters in regard to fitment and quality....there is very little. I've had the AFE for a couple months now and the fitment was excellent...no issues regarding rattling and such. Today I replaced it with the Macht Schnell filter and its' fitment is excellent as well. In retrospect I think I would've stuck with the AFE because the difference between the two is so minimal.
I also installed the RPI scoops ($99..oh what the hell) today. The fitment was a little tricky and the self-tapping screws suck. Once you have them positioned properly though, they fit nicely. This weekend I'll be replacing those screws with some conventional bolts and nuts. Seat of the pants tells me that their might be some extra power with the scoops, but it's probably mostly in my head. At a very minimum I'm sure that they direct more cool air to the filter, so heat soak is reversed more quickly. Looking forward to my AA tune, pulley and exhaust install |

I switched because I kept hearing about fitment issues with the AFE and decided to just try the MS. Quality wise I really like the AFE. It's put together more cleanly, but with that said....BMC makes the nicest quality filter that I have ever seen. As far as sound goes, the MS is a little bit more muffled. That is most likely due to the fact that it's a 7 layer gauze filter vs 5 layers for the AFE. Either filter will add a nice growl over the stock paper garbage

Not one bit - there are others on the forums that have reported success from upgrading to the MS filter.

Tom is correct; the MS filter does not rattle at all. With that said, the AFE that I had never rattled either. Both filters are great quality. I really like the fact that the MS is a 7 layer filter though...makes my mind rest a little easier.
