Voice Dialing
Is anyone with an 09 spec car, without any nav, able to tell me whether you can use voice dialing with the standard bluetooth preperation that comes with Oz spec cars?
I'm trying to work out whether it's only available with nav, or whether it's a standard feature. I don't know how it works on the 1er, but on my e46, you press and hold one of the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel (I think it's the one at the bottom right of the group). The car beeps, and you say something like "dial name", "dial number", or "save name", etc -- and it would do as you asked (most of the time). Thanks, B. |

Same deal with the 08 build. I had a bit of fun recently playing the the voice dial. Takes some time to set it up though.

Good to know that it works the same, and that BMW has done nothing to improve or simplify it from my '04 e46 to the latest model.
I guess they're in the car business, not the phone or software business. Oh, hang on - it's software that controls most of the car these days. Maybe they do know something about software. Perhaps at some stage, BMW might consider implementing a standard bluetooth stack. BMW ----- meet Microsoft and Broadcom. Perhaps a conversation could be useful. They only control 90% of the bluetooth market. And as such, they are only the most common bluetooth implemetations in the world. And somehow, by shear magic, they manage to get a pretty flakey technology to work on quite a lot of devices - headsets, cars, printers, etc, etc, etc. Oh! And providing cradles and getting the car to work with 4 phones, none of which are new, and some of which stopped being sold 12 month ago, is not something to be proud of - it's an embarrassment |

Agreed!! I’ve just resorted to using the buttons on the dash to type a number or through the recently dialled lists
