Creating a 1Addicts Technical Documentation Area

Being the I.T. geek that I am, and knowing how important it is to take the information that is collected/debated/organized/approved, and making it easily available, I ask the question.

Why is there no area like this for 1Addicts Forum? We review many things like how to break in an engine, how to properly warm it up, when it's ok to "step on it", issues with new model (fuel pump, third brake light, etc). This way, there wouldn't be any repeats of the same info. Once a topic is debated, and there can be either a consensus, or a poll vote on the info, it could then be submitted to a Mod for placement in a documentation area for all to read and learn.

Is this possible? Would people like this idea? Just throwing this point out for chances of possibility.

The biggest problem with that is the only stuff thats definitively authoritative is out of the Owner's Manual. Every thing else is subject to intense debate. There is an expression; science and technical details are not determined by consensus, no matter what global warming proponents will tell you.

Granted, and yes, a lot of it would have to be taken with a grain of salt.

People disagree on how to break in an engine, and IF they should break in an engine, and that one would be contested.

But things like the fuel pump issue et al, that would be easy to post.

I know this would not be the easiest thing to set up, but I figured that if it was, it would be a good help.

also, what if someone manages to retrofit something that was not officially offered as a retrofit by bmw, there would be no support documentation in any manual. For example, My friend has retrofitted HD radio into his 3 series, not officially supposed to be possible.
He bought the iboc tuner off ebay from some guy in russia.

I think a huge FAQ wouldn't be out of order but I'm not volunteering to compile it.

How about if someone was trying to install the JB3 or RISS, and encountered a common problem. They could come to the FAQ area and see the problem and know the fix.

That would also be a non-controversial set of items to add.

I nominate tbird to dig through the forums and compile all the accumulated knowledge into a FAQ.

I would certainly be willing to do some work to that effort. I am definitely a "Put up or shut up" type of person.

If I did it alone, it would take me a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. More preferable if it were 4-5 of us, but I would do work to that effort.
