Just a fun point on the 1

Nothing serious, just a fun thing I noticed.

Walking through the thousand or so cars in the employee parking lot, I see 3Series EVERYWHERE! The vast majority of them are the plain "stripped" "Lease the 3 with no money down and $320/month" deal.

While it is still a decent car, it just isn't the 1. The 3 is "common" now. The 1 hopefully never will be.

Signed,

The guy who is forced to go to meetings, stand up and state "Hi, my name is ________ and I am an addict. Addicted to the 1"

That's all. Resume normal daily activities.

I agree, too many 3's around here... feels good to only see a few one'ers here and there and when I do they're ALWAYS nice- regardless of age/gender

Agreed. Read in the Roundel that the 2008 North American sales ratio between the 3er and 1er was 10 to 1. Comical....10 to 1....with the (1) being the 1er. LOL.

Either way, I agree, I like owning and driving something a bit more exclusive or rare and less mainstream. My stable will attest to that.

I get a lot of kind of meh looks from 3er owners. I feel like the more talented little brother or something. Mustang GT and Infiniti G35/37 owners, OTOH, always give the nod and a grin, which I reciprocate.

That is exactly the reason I didn't get the keychain with the "1" on it. If I lost my keys in (any) parking lot, it wouldn't take much to figure out which car they fit. . .

Have Fun,
Rick

Don't let your 3 series brothers hear you say this.........this is what they would do to you....

Be happy that there are plenty of people buying the 3-series. It was their purchase that made the 1-series possible.

I hae gotten some(obviously not ALL) looks from 335i drivers like "my car is better than yours"... However any M3 drivers I have run into seem to think the 1 is awesome...

interesting

Agreed, one thing that makes the 3series now so bland and boring is the fact that there's such a concentrated amount of em on the street. I find it funny seeing drivers with M3s, Porsches and other higher end car owners speeding up trying to either be behind or next to me just for a better look at my lowly 128i. Don't see that ever happening with a 3 haha

I thought is was a little bit of just an Atlanta problem, but no doubt there are tons of BMW's out there. I pretty much just ignore most of them except the M's and they seem to do the same to me. While I'm driving around looking for Ones, the most common cars that I mistake for Ones are 5series or once or twice I have thought Audi cabs were One cabs.

I'm accustomed to driving the "lower" end brother car. My prior similar car is a Porsche 968 cab. That car always confuses people. I still think I like it better than the One, although it's not very straightline fast with just a 3.0l 4cyl. The One is a much better daily driver though, much more useful.

Try being in the BMW mecca that is Long Island. I see atleast one of every series a day...this includes the 1 on many occasions.

Although...of the 50 or so bimmers I see a day. Honestly the ones that make me give a double take are the Z8 that I see around and the E36 M3s.

Guess going to school in an area that has a daily showing of 250K cars sort of numbs me to M3s and 7s.

ohh and Tbird, nice to see your 1er's name in your info box!

Almost every 3 I see here is just some clueless woman who doesn't use blinkers. There's tons of bmws here so I don't really pay much attention to them. I did see a white 135 today though... but it was some woman who payed me no attention.

I park next to a mercedes mclaren slr, enough said =\

Long Island?? Try Los Angeles. I think there are just as many 328i's out here as there are Honda Civics. That's an exaggeration, but only very slightly.

Omg, you have no idea how good you have it. Out here in central Missouri, its like, Bimmer CENTRAL. Like, Z3M's everywhere and E36 M3's at every stop light... I see five or six M6's every morning on my commute to work and don't get me started about the number of 7ers around. Does EVERY retired couple have to drive one? Like, OMG.

The 3 series driver looks are priceless. Sometimes it makes me want to whip out my keychain to show them my 2 keyfobs and let them know that I also own a 335i, but prefer to drive the 1. Unfortunately, the majority of 3 owners are leasing a status symbol and nothing else. It makes the enthusiasts look bad. The 3 is a great car as well, regardless of how many are on the road.

There are many reasons why I prefer the 1 over the 3, and the exclusivity is just a bonus. But I am starting to see more 1er's on the road these days. I think I see one every 2-3 days on average now (and not the same ones).

...glad to hear it is still a 'rare' car in the states. Here in Germany it's getting to the point where I can't drive a mile without seeing a U.S. spec 1er!

I've said it before I'll say it again; its the perfect 2nd/1st LT /single CPT /junior NCO car because of the massive discount service members get and the amount of value it represents to those age groups.

There are so many 3 series cars all over the place. I never realized until I got interested in getting a 1.

I get all kinds of looks from people because there just arent that many 1's on the streets here in Ottawa. I had a guy almost crash his older merc e series in traffic yesterday hanging out the window to look at my car.

I do notice a few 3 series drivers being extra aggressive when I'm around...like they have to prove their worth. There is this one guy in a 328 I see near my office quite often, and he tries to whip past me and beat me to get on the highway on-ramp. I just giggle at his inferiority complex though, and continue to enjoy my (up to this point) unique ride!

Here at my work(Hugh Biotech in S.SF) there are tons of 3ers out here. I only see 2 other 1ers here besides mine. It's like when i had my E46 M3, i didn't see much until now but not as much as 3ers though.
