Exhaust Advice please

Hey,
I have having trouble deciding what to do with my e92 m3 in jerez, regarding the exhaust. I dont like the look of the tips much, and the sound is not quite throaty or loud enough...i just want it a tad bit louder, not eisanmann race or magnaflow loud...i think around an eisanmann sport. no drone, louder and throatier idle, but not obnoxious, its my dd, and i drive in the city and suburbs and traffic a lot and i dont want to have to worry about cops. I also think its dumb to buy an eisanmann sport since its so close to stock, and i dont want to spend that kinda of money...id rather use it elsewhere.

what can i do, i was thinking of putting cyba's blued ti tips for the aesthetic portion, but is there anything that can be done, relatively inexpensive and unobtrusive, to up the sound a bit?

can someone explain cat deletes to me...like difference between taking them all out vs secondary vs primary...benefits, effects...i am not interested in seriously altering the car either...
so i guess i am stuck?

a friend of mine has a great pair of magnaflow mufflers and tips that sound amazing and look nice, he want to get rid of them so thats good, but its a bit on the loud side....
thks

i think the AA signature exhaust would fit you perfect. you barely even notice it's louder from inside. NO DRONE at all (only a slight drone at 2k)

Thanks for the input...only problem though, is i am not really interested in doing a full exhaust swap....just small-scale

well it's only axle-back... it's not a FULL swap. you could get the whole header-back...

magnaflow mufflers will drone a lot... and just changing tips will probably not change sound...

Do the ti blue tips on stock muffler and add a X-pipe for the added aggressiveness in sound.

No drone at all, just a bit louder and a meaner sound then AA, Encore Innovation (axle back only), Riss Racing (axle back only) or Remus/Eisenmann (sport only).

I'm in pretty much the same boat as OP, and would like something just a tad deeper with no add'l volume while gently puttering around, don't care how loud they are at WOT. Saw the review here of the Borla install - why no love for that setup? It seems like the perfect balance of a slightly more agressive note, complete package and easy install and good price point.

Is it just that they are the new kids to the block for this app, or are they just looked down on because the are not from the same homeland as the car?

AA signature exhaust only...leave the rest stock and you will be fine. check out my thread if you want to hear it with the added connecting pipes and x-pipe...then imagine it quieter.

there is no drone in the cabin or massive increase in decibals inside....someone measured it and it is about 2-4 decibals louder inside which is next to nothing.

REMUS SPORT

At 1422 retail and a better price through PM, it is a tough deal to beat for a complete stainless steel system that is completely hidden away behind your OEM bumper, no ugly hanging stock muffler here

Niqui look at my sig... I wouldnt have AA Exhaust and AA Xpipe in 2 separate areas if it didnt come separately.

You can buy the exhaust alone and its about 2600 or 2700 usd plus shipping.

If you want a cheaper exhaust that is good bang for the buck but not too loud then get the Remus SPORT. NOT the Race. I think its around 1300 or 1400 usd and excellent bang for the buck. If you want to go more expensive then the AA Signature exhaust or the Eisenmann Sport . Eisenmann sport is in the mid 3k range with the connecting pipes.

The connecting pipes means that you WONT need to chop your stock exhaust and all the mechanic does is unbolt the stock exhaust and bolt in the aftermarket exhaust so if you ever want to switch back there is no welding.

I DONT recommend getting an X-pipe for you since you find mine too loud. The X-Pipe is what makes the exhaust loud the muffler is a small part of that loud (at least in my case with the AA).

I actually got a PM from a fellow motnrealer who is getting a Remus exhaust this week so you will get to hear a better quality exhaust than the magnaflow. I dont believe Remus comes with connecting pipes.

thanks, no, i understood that xpipe and exhaust are separate, i was just confused in terms of changing mufflers, connecting pipes, or the entire system...
i understand better. i do not want to buy a whole system...
i will think about it, thanks again guys

I just had my AA Signature exhaust installed today. I have to disagree with BMWDemon about the AA not being that much louder than stock. I find that at some speeds, it is waaay louder than stock and it does drone at some rpms. I'll have to borrow my friends sound pressure meter to get real db numbers. But I find that going at slow speeds, it is really loud, as in loud enough to be annoying to the rear seat passengers. Then accelerating at over 4000 rpm and up, the loudness actually seems to decrease surprisingly and I could hear the engine over the exhaust.

I still need to do more testing and will be posting a full review with pictures (maybe video if I can borrow somebody's camera) in the Exhaust Modification section by this weekend.

Are you saying AA exhaust alone or with the AA X-Pipe?

I put my exhaust and X-pipe at the same time so I never got to hear what the AA exhaust alone sounds like. And you are right... After 2600 rpm (for me) it starts to get quieter on slow acceleration. When you WOT it screams and I do mean SCREAM !

hows the resonance from 1.5k to 3k? Heard the encore and couldn't deal with it so I passed. Seems like most exhaust for m3 have this. Maybe Eisen Sport is my only option.

I have only AA rear section (i.e. I don't have the X-pipe). I find the sound loud at low rpms and speed. At around 60-70 mph it is a couple of db louder than stock. It defintely has drone from 1000 rpms to 2600 rpms. At idle, the sound is only slightly louder than stock.

On a cold start up, it is very loud, and quiets down after about 1 min of warm-up (like the stock exhaust does).

Of course, keep in mind that I only have about 30 miles on the exhaust. People say that after a week or so, it will quiet down. I hope that's true.

Like I said, I'll have to run some more tests and pay attention to my speed/rpms when I get my friend's sound pressure meter. I might even make a graph for you guys if I have the time.

Can someone talk about the primary and secondary cats ???s on the OP? I"m curious about that as well. I"ve read quite a few threads and there is lots of delete this or high flow cats that, etc...but what exactly are they for and what to look for if considering an exhaust or fulls system with primary or secondary deletes, etc? I'm sort of in a similar situation to the OP. Thanks!

You can't go wrong with this exhaust muffler. It is just like the REMUSshop said. This exhaust is hidden away, and it sounds good with no drone and it looks good you will be like trust me this exhaust is half the price of Eisenmann Sport . The Remus Sport is a true bang for your buck.

Remus Sport Exhaust .... FTW
