Has anyone done the Dinan ECU tune??
Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has the Dinan flash yet and what their impressions are. My car is going in for the 3.62 diff and exhaust on Friday and I was considering doing the flash at the same time. I would like to hear from someone who has it because I am a little hesitant at this point due to the small gains listed compared to other major tunes out there. Thanks in advance for your inputs! |

I am interested in reading any reviews as well. Hopefully the review will be from a bone stock car with just the software installed.

I had it done about a week ago. I haven't had a chance to fully evaluate this yet, but this is what I can tell so far. This is based on normal driving with an occasional spirited session here and there. Throttle response is improved in the lower rpms and after 5500 rpms. The mid rpms might be a little more responsive as well but it is not as noticeable as the high and low end rpms. I can defintely feel the car having more power and the exhaust has a slightly different tone. I have not taken it pass 155mph but the limiter has been removed. I don't have anything on my car yet just the AFE air filter. Gintani exhaust is on the way, so my car is pretty much stock. I don't know how the other ECU upgrades out there will stack up against this one but all I can say is that I don't regret going the Dinan route on this. I hope this helps.

I went to have the Dinan ECU flash last week. Dealer could not flash , my DME was to new? Called Dinan - they said needed to re-read the DME numbers to add to flash , or send in my ECU mod. I'll wait a while to see if any update? 09 M3 w/M-DCT

I haven't been very impressed with the products Dinan has made for the e9x M3's. There may or may not be much difference in the software between AA & Dinan, but I'm still going with AA for sure!

Mine's installed, but I'm out of town and won't get it until next Tuesday. I'm doing a dyno run next week with 100-octane and then following with 91-octane soon thereafter. I've got baseline runs already so I can give meaningful numbers; however, don't expect much, other than higher redline and top speed.
I've got the Dinan throttle bodies and 4.10 final drive. The only Dinan product for the E9x that I'd recommend without reservation is the final drive. Dave

This is from AA's website on the E9x M3 Software they are selling:
Key Features Realisitc 15 Horspower gains throughout ENTIRE RPM range Higher torque over factory settings throught RPM range Recalibrated settings for a smoother and more responsive part throttle transition Recalibrated settings for a smoother and more responsive power delivery FULL control over DME fuel curve on LOCKED or OPEN DME Modified VANOS camshaft remapping eliminating rough COLD start enable Top speed limiter removed Raised RPM thresholds in sepecific gears Aggressive LAUNCH CONTROL feature Tune available for 91 or 93 octane fuel Full FREE tech support and assistance Fast turn-around delivery for a easy to do install Performance Specs 15 HP @ 8400 RPMS : Rear wheel HP measured on the dyno 11 Ft / LBs @ 6700 RPMs : Rear wheel FT/LBs measured on the dyno I personally like the way our cars sound on startup until it calms down. It sounds really aggressive, etc., similar to muscle cars.

I agree about the cold-start mode. I like it and would not want to lose it. Always a little something different in the morning and it is fun to wake up the neighbors or the poor guest that happens to be in the room over my garage trying to sleep.
Dinan sounds like a good option for warranty protection but their reported gains are so much lower than their competitors. Which means either they are very honest, very conservative since they have to respect the warranty, or not very good at their engineering which I seriously doubt. In the end I really think the warranty issue is a crutch for them. Their spring kits kinda proves that point as well. But then it makes you wonder what you are doing to your car if you use the other aftermarket products. I guess we will not know for a few years until someone with other aftermarket mods has a chance to put 100K miles on their car.

Hey guys thanks for the input! I am at the shop right now getting my dinan 3.62 diff, and exhaust installed. I have decided to do the dinan ECU flash so I will let you guys know how it goes! Might be tough to distinguish with the 15% torque I just added

You are right, you probably will never know what difference the software makes since you're getting the diff done at the same time, but it's not very expensive, relatively speaking, so what the hell.

I went to get the tune last week in my 08 e93 m3 and they had issues flashing the ecu. "ecu is not compatible". They put a call into dinan but I wasnt planning on sitting there all day waiting for a call back to say, "sorry, cant do it yet". anyone else have any experience with this?

Hey guys, guess it is time for me to share hey.
I got the 3.62 diff, the dinan exhaust and ECU done last friday at Calgary BMW (that place is straight class, can't give them enough credit, great service and sales staff!) My initial impression as I drove away was wow! The power delivery was much smoother and it pulled very very hard across the board. There is much more torque available throughout the RPM's (keep in mind I have yet to take it over 6000 RPM since I have to break in my new diff). The car no longer feels "lazy" as I sometimes perceived. Mid-range is fantastic and that needle flies around the tach very quickly now, I have to keep my eye on it to make sure I am compliant with break in. Now I really can't give a full review of just the ECU tune because I know a ton of the torque is from the diff and I can't hit the new 8600 rpm redline for another 1000km but I am glad to report you still retain the rough idle at start up which I like! The car feels like a new beast, and drives effortlessly now. I am super impressed and happy with it The exhaust sounds great, not too loud but definitely better than stock. There is really no drone and a minimal increase in cabin noise. The black looks awesome on my AW car and is a big reason I also made this decision. I am very pleased with this exhaust and would recommend it to anyone. Just a few more mods for me and I am done, thanks again guys! Albert |

Nice review Albert. I hope that you did baseline dyno runs before the chip.
I'll try to get to the dyno for a couple of runs with the Dinan ECU, with 100-octane and then with 91-octane. I'm not expecting much, but we'll see. The gear is the way to go. My 4.10 is the bomb. For the most bang for the buck and the fewest PAX penalty points, the final drive mod is the one to get. I'd put the springs second and ECU/exhaust last. (The exhaust sounds great though). Dave
