Active Processor Performance/fuel economy
I've had a AA processor for around 9 months now and it has not missed a beat.
The performance is more than impressive and relaibility is first rate. But there is something I didn't expect...... I took the car out yesterday for a 300KM, shall we say, spirited drive, and checked the instantaneous fuel consumption on the freeway before the drive and afterwards, and the difference was astounding. Before the drive, I was managing 7.5 Litres per 100km's on the freeway, and after the drive, on the same stretch of road, this had gone down to 5.5 Litres per 100kms That's right, 5.5!! That is a seriously impressive figure that a lot of diesel cars would struggle to emulate I can only come to two conclusions: 1. The AA processor is a pretty impressive bit of kit, given the substantial power increase amd yet still produces incredible economy during freeway conditions. 2. The N54 engine really doesn't like to fart around the suburbs for mostly stop start journeys which unfortunately represents most of my driving. My 300km drive must have blown the cobwebs away then, given the 5.5 figure above. So here's a tip: Give your car an unforgiving thrashing every now and again and she'll come back begging for more!! These engines just love to rev and rev. A lot of city work bogs them down. I'm going to aim to taking mine for an "enthusiastic" drive at least once a month. Still can't get over that 5.5 figure and all that power in the same package. Enjoy!

Whilst I can't emulate the 5.5, I've noticed that since my track day where I gave the car a really good work out my consumption has dropped from an average of 11.0 to 10.2....and the engine sounds a bit sweeter!
Mind you...what I'll save in fuel over the next few years will need to be spent on a new set of Michelin PS2s and a new set of front pads!!!

5.5L/100km??? Are you sure your fuel consumption isn't set to display mpg?

135i is rated at 9.6/100km, so you are talking about almost halving that, so 5.5, I don't think so...
Best I've done is round trip on freeways of 500Km at the speed limit and got 8.7 which I thought was pretty good. |

I think what Bim135Aus was referring to ,is the instant fuel consumption which really depends on road conditions/level road/rpm/ etc etc...
Which can be achieved on a flat surface sitting on a steady speed and level rpm..But this is not a true indication of your "average" trip consumption as you are all indicating. |

Zuzu is right - it was my instantaneous usage and yes it was in litres per 100km not mpg
The 9.6 L figure is the average figure quoted for the 135I and does not relate to the instantaneous one that I experienced. In any case, I made a direct instantaneous comparison on the same stretch of road before and after my trip and indeed, the instantaneous usage did drop to 5.5 Can't help it if my car is kinda freaky! Gotta love her though.........

god damn it, i drive mine hard quite a bit and its at 14/15 all the time.
took it down south for 400km's of 130km/h and got 9.9 Sitting at 100km/h in 5th or 6th and its about 7. Ahh well, i dont really care about the fuel economy. I bought it to drive, just like my GTR which gets 20L/100km no matter how much you baby it!

Had the car for 3 weeks now, and consistently get around 9-9.5L/100km (mixed highway/suburban/city). I have a pretty docile driving style when I am driving normally but open it up occasionally.
When on a flat highway at around 100km/hr I am doing an instantaneous readout of around the 5-6L mark just like Bim135 (but mine is stock). |
