Question iDrive Navigation Map Updates

During my delivery, I asked my salesperson how the nav maps are updated since there is no longer a dvd player but an internal hard drive with the new iDrive (CIC). She said that the nav maps are updated automatically indefinitely even without a BMW Assist account subscription.

This sounds too good to be true since the old iDrive (CCC) nav map DVD costs $200+ if you want to get the latest update.

Can anyone confirm this?

New Navigation maps are supplied on DVD to put in your DVD drive assuming you are talking about a MY09 iDrive.
It's actually in the owners manual.

Thx Oldman!

So does that mean the that single slot is a CD/DVD combo player? And the map update DVD installs the updates to the iDrive hard drive? And my salesperson was lying?

Yes it is a CD/DVD player...
Your MY09 will play DVD's whilst the car is stationary. If you want to have them play whilst the car is in motion (for the passenger of course), then you will need one of these.

Just ordered one myself.

I am interested to see the install and results. i have been wanting to do this since I first heard about it. 189 bucks is not too bad; I mean my passengers need this
