Does anyone know anyone doing custom dyno tunes in the Rocky Mountains on E92 M3s?

I just had mine done at Gintani last week. Picked up an additional 20hp at the wheels. I didn't think the car could pick up so much torque and hp across the board. Runs great now.

Were you guys running stock ECU's before, or did you gain 20hp on top of a mail-in flash?

Unfortunately they don't have a shop at 5400 above sea level.

I can't find the optimal octane. 100 and 105-octane lose power. (91-octane is the norm here in Colorado).
Also, I've gained only 5 hp with an 8% increase in throttle body volume and a Dinan chip. Dave

I also have a question about E85 fuel. Due to the higher oxygen content, could I expect a gain if I did a 20/80 mix of E85/91?

Do you have your catts removed? I found the car goes very rich at our altitude when you remove the catts. The same thing happens with the E46 M3 CSL which runs on MAP sensor & not MAF. When I leaned the car out to run around 12.8 AFR up top it gained a lot of power. Do you have an AFR trace of your car? Have you played with the VANOS maps? |

I've still got all my cats. My mods are; Dinan throttle bodies (8% volume increase), Dinan chip, air filter, 4.10 final drive and Active Autowerkes Signature muffler. From 2500 rpm to 5500 rpm my AFR is around 13, then bounces it around 12.5 to 12.8 up to the 8600 rpm redline. My hp trace plateaus at around 7000 rpm, which is where torque starts falling slowly. The curves look like most of the ones posted around here. Some of my runs are over at PencilGeek's excellent dyno database thread. How are you tweaking the AFR and VANOS?? In the US it's very hard to get the software for that. A handful of tuners have developed there own, but they're all at sea level, in Florida, California or New Jersey. My dyno guy is looking for something that works with BMW and Mercedes since he thinks there's a big market for dyno tuning these cars at this altitude. I'm doing another baseline run tomorrow, with 91-octane. I suspect that'll gain me a few hp over my latest run, with all my mods, showing 337 hp and 247 ft.lbs. of torque. I'll then start mixing gasoline to see if there's a point between 91-octane and 100-octane where there's a gain. My dyno guy thinks that a 20/80 mix of E85/91 will be the cat's meow, but I'm a little concerned about the ethanol's corrosive potential on my fuel system. (I'll only run it for "special events", but if I can get optimal results w/o the ethanol, I'd prefer it). Of course, ethanol is loaded with oxygen, so it logically could be a plus, but who knows how the oxygen sensor will react when it sees higher levels of O2. I suppose it'll likely lean out more, but it'll be hard to know until we try. I kind of hate shooting in the dark. It seems like plenty of people should have already dealt with these problems, but I'm having trouble finding anyone with ANY experience with the issue with any car, much less a new M3. Hmm, I wonder about the high altitude drag racing forums. I my dig around there. Dave
