Riss Racing Axle-Back Exhaust Almost Released!
Disregard title, this is still in its somewhat final test stages. I got the first one of their finalized versions, and boy does it sound amazing. It looks good too, I like their new unique design over their old one. I'll be making a comparison video of this soon. The exhaust itself should be out for everyone else Tuesday or Wednesday.
I'm testing this finalized version over the weekend first, but essentially we were just test-fitting this on my car, and almost everything came out okay. Just need to tweak fitment a tiny bit, which was why we were testing it on my car over the weekend before handing out everyone else's, eh? Patience, I promise it'll be worth it everyone! I can't organize my thoughts right now, since I only got 3 hours of sleep last night, combined with my newfound giddyness and adrenaline after this initial drive. This thing looks fantastic, and sounds fantastic. Car sounds a lot more aggressive, and feels like it's taken on a whole new personality. Butt dyno also feels a slight pickup when getting on the throttle at lower RPM's, though I wouldn't say it's a huge difference. It's noticeably louder, but not so much that it'll make people's ears bleed. The car has a beautiful bass tone to it when accelerating smoothly, but once you get on the throttle, and once you let go of the throttle, on the engine's run down, it just sounds so mean. Has a slight bit of drone, but with the windows up, driving at around 3k, it isn't too bad. You know, I can't really describe it in text, and I don't have my friend's video camera on me right now, so, I'm really sorry. If you REALLY want to hear it though, I'm in Irvine. Just PM me, and if I have free time, well, we'll see what happens. EDIT/UPDATE: There was a bit of droning (though I think the issue got exaggerated a bit in this thread. It wasn't as bad as Eisenmann or anything), so I took this along with feedback to Riss Racing. They then proceeded to redesign the muffler and pipes, and took care of whatever fitment issues were present. There shouldn't be any problem with the final release version that is shipping out. Just thought I'd let everyone know. Last edited by LateBraking; 06-11-2009 at 07:59 PM.. |

Any annoying drone? This is likely the exhaust I am going to purchase for my E90 if everything checks out.

Are you sure yours shipped out today Nova? You might have a small issue with then hangar fitment. I think we were supposed to work that out tomorrow, then proceed to correct it on all the other mufflers. |

Arrghhh. Thanks for your honest feedback. This is likely a show stopper for me though. I can't deal with drone anymore. Been there and done that. Especially in that RPM range where you live on the highway.

+4 I guess ....I really want an axle back, but don't want the drone either. I'm thinking about just sticking with my Fabspeed X-pipe & stock exhaust. Great performance and zero drone .

Sorry, I have some stuff to deal with, I promise I'll get more on this once I have some free time. Also, trying to get my friend to finish editing and uploading the vid: we already finished recording. PM Adam if you can't wait, he took pics of the car.
Trying to take it in to their shop tomorrow once I'm free. |

Sorry it isn't too great. I was rushed and just ran out, filmed, then had my friend compile and upload. But, it's all I have time for right now, so please just bear with it. You can tell the second half is rushed, and I apologize.

Why does that sound so damn loud now compared to the original videos. Perhaps more power in exchange for more sound/drone?

Sounds way too low pitched and "American muscle" to me. I prefer the sound of the flat plane crank Italian V8s, higher pitched and more raspy.

I prefer the flat planed high pitch crank sounds too, but you can never make a cross-planed crank engine sound like a flat plane crank. It isn't physically possible. In a flat plane cranked engine, the engine fires twice within the 4 strokes because there are 2 banks of cylinders in a 180degrees phase of eachother, while in a cross plane, like in most cars, the spark plugs only fire once within 4 strokes. A flat plane cranked engine, for example a v8, is "essentially" 2 4 cylinders engines in mated in a v- formation.
