Track Day at Sandown 21st June

Had a great day at Sandown yesterday with MSCA as guests of Andrew and Jimmy of SouthernBM

It was my first track day and I had a ball- made me realise just what a potent car the 135I is- and also how much better I need to be as a driver to take advantage of it!

Had a ball though and am keen to run at Phillip Island in August

Gunning it out of the last corner onto the straight, was probably the best bit for me.

I was pretty crap on the S's after Turn 1 but was getting better, lap by lap.

I was glad to have dumped the Run flats but was brought to earth with the pummeling that my front right tyre took- Sandown is pretty hard on this tyre....

Now, I gotta get used to driving moderately on the street again....sigh.

I was going to attend this, and didn't realise that I had to register beforehand haha. Oh well, I missed it. Could have been one of the fastest times there. And Andrew, time to attend a few driving classes mate. Haha.

Taka, stock 135i can do around 1:28, ehem, only when I am behind the wheel! Lol. I hold the record for fastest stock 135i at Sandown. Only because the only other people who have tracked their stock cars there are inexperience drivers lol.

Want me to beat that?

I do 1:31.7 and 1:32 regularly with semis in my RX-8 at Sandown. I have 120kW atw in my RX-8 and 176kW atw in 135i. I think I have a chance.

I just need to get used to the car.

Hey that is no fair. I wasn't used to mine at all when I took it to Sandown. I had done a few hundred k's and got my friend to do a few hundred k's for me so that I pass 1000km for the track. But yeah, would like to see what you can do stock lol.

Yeah but at least my car is in one piece...and my exterior has less dirt on it than your interior

By the way, Way, why weren't you there, instead of talkin' about it, be there, no excuses, "oh the paperwork, or i forgot", blah, blah, blah

I really wanted to go Andrew. But as I said, I thought because I was a guest of SouthernBM, I didn't have to sign up etc. Would have been great to show others how quick the 135i is. I looked at the Natsoft times, and other than Greg Alcock (was he in his usual Lotus?), I could have been the fastest time there!

Big Red was there in his monster, it only did 2 laps or so before being blackflagged, he did a 1.22 on his second lap, noise restrictions on the day kept the ex v8 supercars out though.

In my 135i i would be lucky to do a 1.40 at the moment.

Ryan, good effort getting 1:40 in the wet. I reckon Taka going to be challenging you for the dry record though! The 3 of us should do the next DD day there. Btw, the 135i auto is no slouch. You have shorter gearing (well I have the same gearing in my car as you do now!) and your car actually is faster at drag strip than the manuals according to others who drag. On a track like Sandown I expect it to be pretty much line ball as the manual. Just remember, 1:28 is the target...

God word gets around quickly! There was a medical emergency (NOT a racing incident), that looked as though it was going to have a bad outcome. With medical intervention, the outcome was much improved. Fingers crossed, but signs were looking positive all things considered. Amazingly it happened on track, I was in the right place at the right time, literally the car behind. Had to laugh when someone tried to kick me out of the way, yelling and screaming they were a 1st aider

And WAY your 1.28 is safe, I'm too ham fisted. But considering it was actively raining with a bit of standing water, i'll take the 1.40

But now I'm on the hunt for a cheap racelogic box!

EDIT: was a DD day.

Well done Ryan. Good work!

Hey Taka, how come I don't hear about you doing good work like this? Or is it because you are a specialist that you don't remember basic medicine anymore huh? Huh?

But I would like to see another stock 135i going faster than that! Kev, take Sarah's car out and show us what it can do! Sad thing is, I will never be able to respond to it as I can never revert my car back to stock again lol.
