Video Inside: Team 135i (WAY and TAKA) @ Australian Tarmac Challenge (VIC) - Day 2
Day 2
We arrived at Lang Lang’s Holden proving ground full of confident and we were about to show them the power of the car. Well until shit happened… Today combined skill and error, friendship and hard work. Enjoy and pray for the BMW parts and pieces that are left at the Holden ground. Video.. Edit: Sony Vegas "mini" Video cam: Canon SD flash camcorder. Mount: Window suction cup (?brand) Data logging: RaceChrono (www.racechrono.com) Data video software: RaceChrono2AVI - producing AVI movie for me to overlay on actual video.

sorry guys. Now it is public. I had to make it private just in case Wayne does not allow something to show up on the video.... like his 'pretty' face for example. But he is cool with that.

A different side of the 135i... the bad side?
Day 3 is coming up soon. The best is certainly happen last... I spent a lot of time editing and directing Day 3 and I take this opportunity to thank Tim from VWvortex... he provided the best scene of all weekend.

Haha awesome video. I still can't believe my spin reviewing the slow motion on the video. It was constant radius, not like I was increasing the turn angle while I shifted, so there is no unbalancing of the car or anything. Clearly the ground is on the slippery side and the tyres were stone cold as my first run was like 30 mins after your run as they kept putting other people through in front of me. On the track, I would normally turn off the ESC/traction control as well but I have NEVER spun shifting up ever! So guys, lesson here is don't try running 225 tyres on a car with some 250kw at the wheel. What I need to do in the future with events like this is to leave the traction control on for the first part of the run so that my tyres has some heat in it.

I use RaceChrono (racechrono.com) for data logging and RaceChrono2AVI to generate a real time .avi movie. Then I simply overlay the video in picture-in-picture mode onto the in car footage. I am getting use to the Sony Vegas "mini" now. So good for a sub $200 editor. I did the 3rd day with WAY giving me the approval. Will post that tonight.

Don't forget to give me 5 stars! That will get more exposure on YouTube.

So you're using RaceChrono to log it, It looks however you're not just getting data from the GPS unit, but you're also pulling data from the OBD? Does that mean you're having two bluetooth connections?

Yes you are correct. OBD data and GPS simutaneously. 2 bluetooth connections and N95 can tolerate it very easily, still getting 5Hz GPS data and 4Hz and more (depends on cars) of the OBD data.

cool, looks like you guys had some fun.
like in that video, my worst fear is going sideways into dirt/grass/off the track and the tyres digging in and you going over.

Interesting, going to have to keep that in mind. Was looking to go down the OBDII BT key and then use my BT GPS to essentially mimic what you're doing. Was planning on getting a cheap pocket pc, but might just pick up an old phone to do this...

Yeah... racechrono.com has a Window mobile version up. If you have one of those you can save some money.
I have a new phone so the N95 is sitting in the car just doing 0-100kmh atm. LOL

Great video, you are on it. Gee the car gets a hard time though. That's clearly why all the under tray is broken and most of the mountings underneath, The LH splash extension etc and headlight mounts.....
I love the dash readings and in car vision, great stuff. Who's that good looking guy at the end |

You only think he is good looking because he didn't turn around! Lol. In all seriousness though, I want to again thank Andrew and Jimmy from SouthernBM again for coming out to Lang Lang (1.5 hours outside of Melbourne) on a Sat evening to fix my car so that Taka and I could continue racing. Some of you may say yeah but you are paying him for it, but there is no reason for him to even answer my call on a sat when SouthernBM team gets their well deserved rest, let alone then going to his workshop to wait for Taka's car to come back, take the alternator belt off, and then drive to Lang Lang to fix my car in the dark. Andrew's wife was also supposed to go to a reunion and he was supposed to look after the kids. Because of me, she was an hour late. Andrew didn't even get the chance to go into Holden's top security proving ground to see what it is all about. At least Jimmy got to do that. Lol. You know how people always talk about going over and above for service? Well, right here is a real life example for ya!
