Hit the Magic 1200

Passed 1200 miles this weekend. The M is headed in on Friday for the break-in servicing. Lovin life so far. The clutch broke in perfectly.

I was well behaved and only exceeded 5500 rpm twice, however, never beyond 6000 rpm. I can't wait to hear the thunder of 8000 rpm. I anticipate a life altering experience this weekend.

Whats the reason that most people keep the car under 5500rpm until the 1200 miles

Because if you don't, you void your warranty.

No, you don't. Or all demos would be out of warranty. And a good chunk of other cars as well. It's a 'recommendation' you should follow if you want to maximize the life of your car. Good day.

Not so much the service department, but I am now starting to question my client adviser >.>

I really don't want to have to start driving to Atlanta... <.<

My apologies for the false comment.

Lol I don't know what I would do if I get a call one day from my SA telling me that they've voided my warranty because I went over 5500. I would think my first reaction is to lol.

Back on topic.. congrats! I remember when I took it in for the 1200. After the service, the first time I took it over 5500 was pulling out of the dealership lol. But of course I looked both ways for traffic and pedestrians first. have fun

oh damn that means that m3 i test drove got its warranty voided TWICE over in less than 5 minutes...

sucks for that car's future owner

Ya its difficult breaking in an engine when u have a led foot ... my trick is to go on a road trip with it when i get it... high way miles are easy to put on safely to promote good break in

Didn't I hear there was an additional limit of 3000 miles where you still need to be relatively soft on the car? or was that a myth?

The manual recommends that you gradually increase the revs and throttle going towards 3K miles. No myth. They're saying 1,200 isn't some dividing line after which you can run at WOT and redline constantly. But as with the break-in period, that's recommended, as Elp_Jc said, "if you want to maximize the life of your car."
