MS Drop-in or BMC Drop-in with RPi Scoops?

I want to do a little something to the performance of the car but don't really have a budget to do much.

So I narrowed it down to these two options and wondered what people thought.

I know there's a bit of controversy around the RPi scoops and whether they do anything or not, but for me I was ready to get them until I saw an install guide and it looked rather flimsy how they installed and I wondered if they held up at higher speeds or if you just hear them rattle around.

Then also just the two filters compared which do most think is better?

Many M3 owners get RPi scoops. I believe those scoops have been proven to give a very slight increase in power when at 60+ mph only. Some guys will just tell you that they're a 'rip off', but I got them anyways due to their 'Cool Factor'.

And on the air filter: Almost everyone here will tell you that THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. I went with the BMC 'cuz it's made in Italy and I've heard that the quality is the best out of all of them. Also, BMC is a very proven company overseas.

If you go with the BMC, be sure to go with the updated version. If you want more info on where to purchase it, feel free to send me a PM.

BMC is sexy as hell....Macht Schnell has 8 layers of gauze, so it filters really well. You can't go wrong with either one .

Are your scoops red though? (which would look good with AW).

I ask because all the places I've looked so far only have red RPi Scoops, except for one place has a package deal with matte black scoops and a BMC filter.

I don't think red scoops would go well with my IB, or at least not the look I'm going for (maybe if I had the superman theme with red interior it would work)

^ I'm guessing that place must be Renn-Spec. I was going to order that same pkg from them, but they no longer had the BMC air filter. Yet I did order some of the other goodies from them. Renn-Spec is Awesome!

btw, I went with red rpi scoops. I'm actually not going for that 'Superman' look, but I do feel that the red rpi scoops give that impression of something exciting & intimidating behind matte black grilles.

You figured me out!

Actually now that I look they offer black scoops stand alone.

So I guess my question is which filter to get? The combo is about $15 cheaper

Fabspeed is probably one of the only vendors who carry the very newest and updated version of the BMC. The reason I say this is because the first ones that BMC came out with had fitment problems.

You're gonna hate me for telling you this, but I paid $130 shipped for it.

I have no regrets though since I expect pure quality from it.

I'm at work right now, and my family just told me on the phone that my BMC air filter just arrived at my home! I'll take plenty of detailed pics of it when I get home, and I'll post them on your thread if you don't mind.

OH you just now got it! Yes please post pics here, I'm trying to decide before the weekend is over which to order.

Actually I'd love pics of how you installed it as I'm not very mechanically inclined, though I realize this is a simple install.

How long did it take you get it from the time you ordered it?

Yes, I'll go ahead and post a few pics on your thread.....And then I'll create a brand new thread and give a full review on my overall impression of the BMC. The install shouldn't be very hard at all, so I'll hopefully give an overall impression of the difference I feel afterwards too. It should be farely easy to feel or hear a slight difference since my M3 is 100% stock at the moment.

Sorry for the confusion since I just ordered all the mods in my sig a couple of days ago. I couldn't contain my excitement, so I went ahead and put everything on my sig.

5-6 hp I believe.

Fabspeed just got the new updated BMC air filters (I made sure with them). That's where I ordered mine from.

I have the pics coming up....

Overall, it's better than I expected. It was bigger than I expected as well......But when I think about it, most items in pics always look smaller than what they really are.

The BMC is truly made of high quality. I'm not just saying that for the heck of it. If I wasn't satisfied, I would tell you. I'm very happy with it.

I'll create a separate thread later after I install it. I'll include a full review of my overall impression of it.

Thanks for looking everybody!

Nice! I never noticed till your pics that the filters aren't perfect rectangles, but they are actually slanted a bit. Makes sense give the shape of the filter box.

Let me know when you put up the pics of it installed, and defiantly let me know what you think.

oh btw, you have an amazing house!

When did they get them in, I PM them a week or so and they said they didn't have them in yet. Also, dumb question but I also would like to know how hard it is to install, being a girl, obviously am I going to need help and what will do this to do the car in terms of HP? Thanks!

I went with MS at the time because the BMC wasn't available if I was still N/A I would be using a BMC. Not to say the MS is bad I just still think the BMC is better.

The RPi is considered to be better designed to some.
