The shocks and the suspension bushings eventually wear out, but that is highly unlikely to happen during the warranty period. Bushings will most likely outlast the shocks.

The suspension components except the F&R shocks attach to a subframe--one at the front and one at the rear. They don't simply just bolt on to the chassiss as that would be too harsh and cause accelerated wear. So there are rubber bushings at the attachment points to absorb energy. There are also rubber bushings where the subframes attach to the chassis. The shocks attach directly to the chassis, but there are also rubber bushings/mounts at the interfaces. The rubber bushings wear out over time, but they will most likely last 100k+ miles.

You can think of the bump stop as a bushing I guess although in that case the deflection associated with it is an integral and desired part of the suspension dynamics. In that same thread, you'll see that the guide supports have rubber surfaces as well. That just applies to the shocks. As I said, there are many other joints in the suspension that use such rubber interfaces. For instance, look at part 15 in the following diagram:

http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E9...tension_strut/

Another example: rubber mounts on the front swaybar (parts 2&3):

http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E9...bilizer_front/

In a race car, a good portion of these rubber interfaces would be turned into solid ones for less/no compliance in order to preserve suspension geometry (with the use of metal rather than rubber), but the result will be accelerated wear and increased noise vibration and harshness.

I'm a bit worried about the longevity of our EDC shocks, but if they use the same 'magnetorheological' system GM uses, I think it has been proved. They should last at least 50K miles, which would be perfectly fine with me. Good day.
