Smile RE Octane SSK review

Hi Guys,

I just got my RE Octane SSK on yesterday!! I like !! a lot why?

1. the built quality is excellent very well packaged. ( I can't say about the AA SSK that I had from before)

2. the shift knob sits higher to a nice position much better compare to stock. I think also the main reason was that I had the Performance shift knob. And it sit lower.

3. The shifting is very accurate even during fast shifting on redline RPMs

4. I did feel a decrease in the notchy feeling especially when shifting into 2nd. But I felt maybe because also this throw is shorter.

5. I think on the downside the shifting takes a little bit more effort. but just slightly. MUCH better then AA.

I can't say much about the UUC SSK but I feel if the DSSR is not working then the RE Octane is the way to go.

The position of the shift knob when is neutral is also very accurate this also helps for smooth shifting. I notice now I have to get used to releasing the clutch faster just so I can keep up with shifting. So there is a little bit more work but when driving fast this all becomes pleasure.

I just this product to anyone who has not purchased a SSK. I think the UUC is a good product aswell but I think one of the key points is the DSSR and it that doesn't really work then there is no purpose.

Here are some pictures of the RE Octane vs. AA
night and day difference

notice all the parts that came with the RE Octane

sorry for the bad review its my first shot so!!! let me know if you guys need more info.

oh : and thanks to EAS

Eugene, first off, I love what you've done with your car. Top to bottom, it is first class.

Second, you'll notice that a lot of the stiffness and extra effort will go away after a couple hundred miles as the SSK breaks in. Then you'll really love it. Most of the notchiness that you feel will remain, however, because that is just how the Getrag transmission itself is. Changing the shifter won't improve the transmission.

Third, I do have to disagree with you about the UUC. The UUC SSK an excellent product without their DSSR. I'm not a big fan of the DSSR, but the SSK by itself is perfect IMO.

That said, either way you go (UUC or RE), you'll be much happier than with the stock shifter. IMO, every M3 owner should get an SSK and a shorter, heavier shift knob like the BMW Performance knob or the BMW E46 ZHP knob. The SSK will shorten the throws and make engagement much more positive and crisp. The heavier knob will smooth out some of the notchiness and will make the shifter feel much more solid. This combo is a radical improvement over the stock shifter feel.

thanks for the great input as I haven't tried out a UUC SSK in the first place. but I guess since you have your opinion is much more accurate then mine.

thanks for sharing.

Good review! I have the UUC, but I love the RE also. In the end, it came down to price. Went with the uuc. No regrets. Enjoy your new ssk

Congrats on one of the best upgrades for your M3, you will not be disappointed, the M3 is simply more and more fun to drive after the RE SSK installation.

Rubber disk, looks like a miniature hockey puck. Screws into the floorboard under the clutch arm so that it will stop the clutch pedal short of the floor, but just beyond the clutch engagement point.

They're cheap (~$20)

Not in the E92 M3. If he is getting a clutch stop it is gonna be a custom one because our cars don't come with anywhere to screw one in.

that I don't know but maybe in Taiwan since there are only a hand full of 6MT's in Taiwan. People here don't like to drive 6MT as much cause of the traffic. But to me an M3 is a driver's car so it has to be in a 6MT

yes, it's suppose to help with the clutch travel time. If the travel time is shorten then it should help with shifting

so in reality you don't have to push the clutch all the way down or this piece moves it so it thinks it was pushed all the way down?? if you don't have to push it all the way in then i could just not go all the way and find the sweet spot so to speak right??

i ask bc i am attending a 1/4 mile event next week and want to practice a little bf without frying the clutch

hey any pics of your car with the NEEZ on them?? love those wheels

I'm still a few weeks out until my car comes, so I'll take your word for it.

Honestly, if you don't have any trouble finding the engagement point, this mod isn't really worth it. Especially if it involves any modification to the car to accomodate the clutch stop.
