Should I make it an '04 or '06
Well it's time to make the leap. My TL is great, huge nav screen, but looking for a little more fun. Basically I looking for advice from all 59,000 members on what year to buy. I am always leary about year 1, so by '05 most of the major design flaws should have been taken care of. Cost of maintenance? Other expected expense other than run flats? |

'06 was the facelift year, as well as the 3-liter engine in both trim levels; tweaked for more HP in the Si.

'06+. You won't regret it. The facelifted Z4 looks a lot more current than the pre-facelift IMO. You will always wish you got the facelifted Z4 everytime you see one if you get an '04-'05.

I faced the same decision a few months ago and ended up buying an '06 3.0 Si.
On the styling, I think I actually like the earlier years a little better. To me, round foglights are classic. But the few additional features and mostly, the greater horsepower of the '06 and later cars is what caused me to pick an '06. And an '06 or later will likely have some of its original warranty remaining. Huzz |

just buy it
mine hasn't failed me ONCE yet! cost of maintenance are relatively cheap. ONLINE dealership offer very inexpensive parts and by having few torx bits you can do your own maintenance. Nothing major. newer is of course better. always look at maintenance records and warranty is always good.

Personally I like the earlier style too - hence my 03 There are a few items I'd like to add one being the M-seats but for the other added differences it didn't matter. I'm very happy with my 03 even given the recent problem due to the air bag control unit - though this could happen to any model year (I think).
I'd say just look and let fate decide - once you find the right one you'll know |

Sweet spot to me is the 2005 model. As the last of the pre-facelifts it offered all the extra niceties but still has the first gen look and lower price. If you want more power though, the 3.0si is preferred. Honestly though, if power is your preference don't settle for less than an M.
