Tire pressure issue

I have the standard

Front R18 225/40
Rear R18 255/35

As you can see, the recommended tire pressure for the rear is 310Kpa, is it a bit too high, if so what is your usual tire pressure? Thank you!!

I don't understand your question. The recommended pressure IS the pressure you should use.

I have the same size tires and the recommended pressure for my 255/35 R18 rear tires is 42 PSI which equals 290 Kpa. I don't know why BMW would recommend different tire pressure in U.S. than in Australia. Maybe they are different tires. Mine are Bridgestone Potenza RE050A I Run-Flats.

Unless you are taking the car on the track your best bet is to use the recommend tire pressure.

the psi on the sticker is the maximum... it depends on the load and on the speed.

i know that the max pressure is printed on the tire and a lot of people mistake this for the recommended pressure...however, i can't imagine BMW would give a sticker with the max pressure as opposed to what they consider normal operating pressure...i'd say stick to your sticker (yeah, i did that on purpose...) and your manual. And then if you have catastrophic tire failure that you happen to live through, you can sue BMW because you followed their guidelines...

I checked my stickers (yes there are two, a yellow one has the +100mph data.) and it's 42 up to 100 mph and 44 over 100 mph on the rears (19"). 36 on the fronts at all speeds.

Canadian model, shouldn't be any different than a US or Aussie etc.

Same size tires but sticker [above] says 230/280 kPa [33/41psi], and I think the legal speeds are a bit higher here, kinda doesn't make sense

Chuck, yes our maximum here is 110 KM / Hour .... mind you when I overtake I get her up to 160 KM (or when the police have a coffee and or lunch break ~grin~).

I do have fun on the Autobahn every 3 years or so was there last year it was great.

I wonder why the rec. Tire pressure is more for the back tires than the front? Is it because the car is rwd? I keep mine at the rec. Pressures, but I remember a long time ago that people would put less pressure in the rear tires to help the car ride better. Does anyone still do that??
