Placing order this week but can't decide if I want Competition Package
I plan on placing my order this week for a 2011 e92 M3 with DTC but can't decide if I should go for the Competition Package. I will be ordering Tech package and 19" wheels anyway so it would really only be another $500 more. I think I prefer the standard 19" wheels though.
Is there any drawback anyone can think of with the Competition Package? Any compelling reasons to go for it? I will be driving my car in the winter and will it will likely never see the track. |

I'd go with the competition package if I were you, just for the hell of it lol. If you didn't like the wheels and wanted the 19s, I'm sure someone on the forum would trade their 19s with you + cash!

Enhanced suspension and electronics with the improved EDC and DSC, premium wheels (look the best to me), lower and wider stance...it's a value at $300 over the regular wheel and EDC options usually offered.
You should get it if you were already getting the premium wheels and EDC anyway.

If it'll never see the track, then there's no point.

I was in the same situation when I was buying my 06 e46 m3. I declined getting the competition package and regretted that decision everyday I had that car. Those competition wheels on that package didn't appeal to me at first, a year or so later I ended up buying some aftermarket replicas. It's something specific that differentiates it from all prior model year M3's. If it's only a $500 difference, I'd say go for it

Will we be getting any additional Comp package detail/updates out of the Geneva show? As to how significant the suspension/programming changes really are?

I was in the same situation with you before making my decision a few weeks back. My thought was for $500 more, you are getting a completely upgraded suspension system (which is a bargain by itself). That was the biggest thing for me. IMHO stock M3's sit a little too high. Any drop will be an improvement, even if it's only a -10mm drop.
I also like the look of the original 19" wheels more than competition wheels, but being that I am getting an E92 Alpine White on Fox Red M3, the competition wheels would make my car a tad bit different than all the other E92 Alpine White on Fox Red M3s out there.

I plan on tracking but skipped out on the Comp package. I like the 19inch wheels but I'll be running 18s on the track for cost reasons. So I'm not sure the "tweaked" suspension settings geared to 19inch wheels will benefit me. I've never been one to go after a "dropped" look. I expect to benefit from the extra 10mm of travel on the local roads.

I'd definitely get it if I were buying another M3. Even if only for resale value, I'd say go for it.

Could you tell me how it's only $500 more? On the pricing sheet it goes for $2,500, so even if you got the 19" wheels ($1200), you'd still be paying $1300 more...
How's it $500?? I'm getting the tech package, and didn't think that brought down the price any..

If 19s are not required to order the package, $550 seems like a good deal for different wheels and shorter springs... if you like both items. I don't. Take care.

10mm equals about 3/8". I really doubt you will be able to tell the difference unless you park a non competition package car behind you. Then maybe you would see the difference. The competition package will also give a more firm ride no matter what setting the EDC is set to. I also don't like the wheels included with the competition package so for me, the competition package would not be selected on the option list.

no brainer, do it
wheels are much better than stock 19s, look more aggressive, and suspension drop of 10mm is perfect with new EDC settings, if you dont wnat to mod, this the most intelligent thing to do and it hardly costs the same as a set of coilovers |
