Oil Change Questions (?)

old filter new oil, os that a bad thing? ;

Hey guys I just got my oil changed after 9K and the oil was pretty black! The filter is pretty dirty too. I turned my back and before I knew it the tech was backing up my car and drove over my new oil filter accidentally..Sigh
I won't get a new one till monday. Do you think it would still be okay If I drove w/t an old one for a couple of days?

I'd kindly request a complimentary (oil and filter) change half-way between the next scheduled interval.

I will take advantage but I just wanted to know; if I really really really need a new oil filter. Is it imperative to change or can I wait a couple of days?

So...you took her in for an oil change and the Tech dropped the oil but did not change the filter. Then backed your car over the new filter. He/she did not do a very good job and that place would never touch my baby again. YES....get a new filter and if it were mine it would have a new batch of oil (again).

Again my question is; is it imperative to have the new oil filter right now while the oil is new or can I wait till monday?

You can wait until Monday, the job of the filter is to not let any dirt to go through. So you are good till Monday.

I haven't changed mine myself yet, but if you don't suck the old oil inside the filter housing like some people do (I will too), you're going to contaminate your new oil just a little, but nothing to worrya about. Just don't leave it there the 15K like BMW wants you to.

And hope you didn't pour all that oil in your trunk; you should need 9 bottles at the most.

Like the other guys said, your fine to leave your filter for a few days. It wont contaminate the new oil. Dirt goes in, not out

I'm curious about the story though. Why did the tech drain your oil and refill it and then drive it? Hopefully not just to run over your filter. He should have changed the filter at the same time as the oil before having to start the engine. Where did you take it?

The story goes like this; I turned around to talk to a friend and when I looked back, the tech was in my car backing it up to make room for another car and to put my car on the lift. I had everything setup on the corner of my car on the floor and I heard a crunch! Once I heard the noise I said stop, stop, stop !

Then he said ow man I'm so sorry I'll get you a new one ASAP. (this was before he changed the oil) Then I said it's all good just change the oil so I can be on my way and give the filter to my friend so I can do it in my garage.. My idiot friend forgot to get the filter from him and the place is closed on the weekends. so...
