What feels faster? D6 or S5?
I always drive my car in manual mode at all the extreme settings. But today I decided to try D5 with the m-button, and WOW, is it just me or the car feels a lot faster in the automatic mode? Just pin the throttle and hang on to the curves. Thoughts?

What year car do you have? Mine is an '09 and I only have 5 D modes but 6 S modes. D5 is pretty aggressive but I am just coming out of my break-in so I have not really had the revs up too high. Hope to do that this week after the 1st service.

So, then, if you're still in your break-in period should you not be driving in a particular mode or is it as long as you're under 5500 rpms it shouldn't matter?

The difference may well be in which traction control mode you are in...my M3 will often feel faster in MDM mode (regardless of gearbox setting) as the system is less aggressive in pre-empting traction loss by reducing engine power especially in the lower gears.

I brought mine in for the 1200 a little over a week after picking it up. After 18 months I'm at 42,000. I'm getting my money's worth out of this one.

It sounds to me like perhaps you are not putting the car in the best gear when you are using S mode. Granted I don't use D mode, but its the same gear ratios in D or S after all. It's all about being in the right gear at the right time.

D5, yeah I agree the computer is doing a better job than you in picking gears. Its really good. But it can't antipate everything so work on keeping the RPMs up in manual modes. It'll take some getting used to, 8400 rpm has a lot of room to play with.

I think for everyday driving D5 is faster than S6, but on a track S6 is going to be faster due to the fact you know what gear you need for a turn and the DCT sometimes stumbles on gears leaving corners, especially when you're low int he RPM band
