Question What fuel do you guys use in your 135i?

Im a bit curious

I've noticed in the past week that some people seem to be using fuels like 91 and 93 in their 135is..

I live in New Zealand and here we typically have 91, 95 & 98.
The 135i manual recommends 98 and most people I had heard of here say use 98.

But whats going on?
Are other countries offering different blends of fuel or something or what??!?!?!

Does it really have to be 98???

In the US I believe they use AKI and for the rest of the world we use RON.

I believe our Premium 98RON is the equivalent of 93AKI in the States.

I believe BMW says 95 (super) is Ok. I always use Super-Plus 98 over here in Germany.

Look on the fuel door... I think it says it right there that super(95) is fine.

The in states, octane is rated differently. RON vs MON( Rest of the World, rating).

So... the highest grade 93 octane in the states is equeal to 98 octane over on this side of the pond.

Best available in Alaska us 90. Sucks, but never heard of a octane related problem.

With all the oil we produce here you'd think we'd have better choices...

They rate it differently in Europe and other countries than they do in the US.

There are three fuel rating systems in the world. MON ON and AKI. Mon is whats used in europe and AKI is whats used in the states. AKI is the average of MON and RON ((MON+RON)/2)

And I use 93 but thats not an option

Yeh, but I'm talking about Alaska specifically. In the other US states they offer higher octanes than we see... and Alaska IS in the US you know

Really Alaska is in the US? I thought it was Russian or something? Did we buy it or something?

Ya I use 93 as well.

90 is a bit low, but most states max out at 91. Florida generally only has 91, and I was quite shocked to see 93 when I moved up here to NY.

Alaska may have alot of oil, but its the refinery that takes oil and makes gasoline. As such I doubt Alaska has alot of refineries as it is a small state. New Jersey and Lousiania have alot, probably Texas as well. But those make sense as New Jersey is close to alot of the east coast population and a great port for shipping in oil. Lousiania also has alot of ports and oil production as well. Its also very central to getting oil all over the south and even up the Mississippi river.

I think U.S. fuel is labeled differently, so I believe our "93" would be their "98". I always use premium (93/98)

From what I understand

91AKI = 95RON
93AKI = 98RON

We consider 95RON and 98RON as premium unleaded fuels here and 98RON is the best you can buy and it is available everywhere.

Has anyone used BioFuel, I read the big thread about the guy talking about N54+Biofuel

The only one available to me here is this one here:

What do you guys think? Safe option??

I'm not keen on ethanol. Even on my NA E46 when I tried ethanol blend there was noticeable decrease in performance and increased consumption.

I don't think ethanol is recommended for the 135.

Back to the original OP, I always use 98RON. Even more so important as I have a tune. I inadvertantly put in 95RON once only and the car threw a few codes when I checked with the BT cable.

something cant be right to with these comparisons.... I have seen in gas station in orange county that sells 93 octane gas and it sells for $8.99 a gallon? So is it safe to assume u guys r paying $2.40 a liter in places outside the US? Because thats just insane IMO...

That's really hard to believe as we're currently paying about $2.99 to $3.39 here in the Washington DC suburbs for 93 AKI (Euro 98), mostly with 10% ethanol. The manual states that up to 10% ethanol is acceptable but higher concentrations should be avoided.

Must be nice man I fill Chevron 91 octane at $3.29 a gallon in LA... I don't think the price difference in all the gas can make that much of a difference......

I was running 89 Octane for a very short while since thats what not only the sales dude, but a service advisor said was ok ( I know I know.... ) and then started doing 91 which is much better it seems ( performance better but gas/milage WAY better ). but now whenever I pass a Sunoco its 94 Octane all the way. Wat would the 94 RON equivalent be? 99? 99.5?

Here in denmark we pay around 10-11 danish kroner a liter for the 97-98 RON fuels, which is around 2$, so around 8$ a gallon
