Do BMW OEM springs work with Koni Yellows
I am about to get a set of Koni Yellows installed and I wanted to ask if anyone has any feedback on the Koni Yellows / OEM spring setup. I don’t want to lose the comfort of the current OEM setup but I do want to get rid of the jiggle and somewhat nervousness from the suspension. The current OEM bottoms out to easily for my liking and I want just a little bit firmer rebound. From all the reading on the forums I think I am going with the softest setting on the Konis with the stock springs. I am also having all of the M3 suspension replacement parts installed at the same time, this includes the sub frame bushings. see list below
Koni Sport (Yellows) (softest setting ?) OEM springs 2 M3 front wishbones 2 M3 Front Tension rods (w/ headlight Regulating rod) 2 M3 Rear upper link 2 M3 Rear Guide Rods 4 M3 Sub frame bushings Am I going to lose the comfortable ride if I add all of this stuff? If so, what should I leave off? I am guessing the Labor is going to cost a lot so I don’t want to regret the installation. The main thing is I don’t want a track car, I just want a better riding and handling daily driver that can still enjoy the twisty roads once in a while. All helpful opinions welcome. Thanks in advance.

I spent $2137.20, all-in, out the door, including alignment and tax, on the BMW PS a little over a week ago and consider it money well spent. I agree with the reports in general about the PS: It's what BMW should have put on the car in the first place. I thought of going the Koni yellow route--I've put them on my last two VW's and loved them, but I was concerned from what I'd read that it would be the wrong move with this car. I was somewhat worried about the PS, too, but I'm really enjoying it now. It made the car a blast to drive. I can toss it around and it doesn't get scary on me. For a daily driver, I don't think you can do better for the money (if you can find a dealer to match what i paid).
Got my kit through Dan@United. You can find his posts in the suspension threads here, if you want source the parts from him and have someone else do the work. I'm not doing a commercial, just giving praise where it is due. Dan is a straight shooter and will give you a great price. Attached is a pdf of the parts included in the PS kit. |

Thanks for the response. Old1 did you add any additional parts to your suspension or was it just the BMW PS?

Just the PS and PS springs. Dropped the car off, got a loaner and got it back the next day. The one stop shopping appealed to me, too, rather than the mix and match approach.

The suspension install has been put on hold. I just looked over the Koni parts I received and they are rusted and show repetitive groove marks imbedded in them so I have emailed the vendor to find out why I received used or referb parts when I ordered "new" parts. I am not going to post the vendor name just yet. I want to give them a chance to straighten out the issue.
I'm not too happy right now.

The vendor is resolving the issue and reassured me that the product is not a referb or a return. They have been very professional and cooperative with me and they have agreed to replace the order.

Sounds like you still have time to order springs then; you seem to have left these out. The OEM sport springs will not be a good match with the Koni's.
You can go with the Eibachs, H&R's, or get a set of the BMW PS springs for less drop. For all the labor money to change those Koni's and the rest of the suspension stuff you're doing, you REALLY need to change out the soft OEM springs... ianc
