Winter rims / tyres
Before next Winter I will order a good pair of rims and winter tyres.
Like to hear which tyres are really good for our Z4 in winter and what rims are a great match.

If you have 19's on the car you will definitely want to get a set of 17" rims. Winter tires for the 19 are somewhere between scarce and non-existent.

In addition, 17" wheels mean higher tire/tyre sidewall which is preferable in snow. (In fact my current 17" wheels will become my winter wheels and I'll get 18" for the summer.) I haven't selected my winter setup for my Z4 yet, but on my previous car (Lexus IS350, 306 HP, rear wheel drive) I used Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 tires. They're winter/snow tires designed for sports cars, with a high speed rating and sporty driving dynamics (albeit with lower grip limits, understandably). I highly recommend them.

I had a pair of Blizzaks on my M3 (don't ask why, it's a long story), they were good tires and I'd buy them again if I needed to. (They were 19"s as well ...)

Wiseguy!
If you want new guys here to find the right topics, ask your mods to change those titles to Tyre instead of Tire. They might even glue some together. Something else, contribute with content please and don't post any wiseguy messages. Thanks. Everyone else, thank you for all the info. Will need to go for 17's anyway.

Check out the Tire Rack. It's a US business, but they do extensive testing (for example, winter tires on sports cars, etc.) and have quite a bit of comments from users as well as survey-based ratings of each tire brand and model.

"Wiseguy! If you want new guys here to find the right topics, ask your mods to change those titles to Tyre instead of Tire. They might even glue some together." There are 330 million people in North America that spell it "Tire", what you got ? 60 mil maybe ? Just kidding mate. Both are correct. When on a multinational forum it is a good tip to search with alternate spellings or terminology. boot = trunk, hood = bonnet etc.... Think how tricky it is for someone who has English as a second language (or third ) Have a good weekend

If I'm not mistaken, "tyre" is the British spelling, vs the US spelling of "tire". I've even used the Britt's spelling for fun and in deference to them from time to time. Based on that, I doubt we'd get everyone to switch over.

Actually there are half a dozen or more official versions of "English" including American English. I don't agree with it but that's life, sh*t happens and stuff changes

In the US we can blame (or congratulate) Mr. Webster for publishing his dictionay that "simplified" english, turning humour into humor, doughnut in donut, etc.
