Early sign is long crank, then engine will loose power, idle roughly, SEL and Engine icon lights come on. There should be error codes stored to tell high fuel pressure problems, and cylinder mis-fire and fuel injection problems.
I am sure, you can't miss it when it happened.

No, not kidding. I wanted to see if others had experienced some symptoms my car has had without leading them to conclusion. Had a code 2aaf I think(going off straight memory) but was told to ignore it. Noticed a little bit of rough idle but only some of the time. never a long crank though which I had read is a dead giveaway. Also think car feels different over 4k rpm.
Thank you for the constructive posts by others. |

This is easily the most widely discussed topic on this forum. You could very easily tack your question onto one of the other threads without starting yet another HPFP thread. The original post in this thread simply says "what's it like when it fails" which has been covered ad nauseum. You're new here and this is a very common problem but being new you should assume that this issue has been discussed and do just a quick search to see if you can find your answer. It will save the next person from adding yet another thread to the hundreds that already cover the topic.

The symptoms have not changed and that is what your OP was asking and no, the HPFP issues have not changed at all until the introduction of the N55. The threads are all dated and I am actually actively participating in 2 such threads so the information is very current. A search would have turned this information up but judging by the way you're reacting to that recommendation I guess we can look forward to more redundancies.

Thanks again!!! sticky is from 2 years ago dude and most of the convo's are too. I don't see what you guys are so angry about a new member posting something. If you don't want to read a thread, don't. It is your choice to read or not read. By the fact you took the time to click the thread and then post your message, you show immaturity. You guys sound like the soccer moms saying they don't like explicit language on the radio. Turn the dial soccer moms!!! |

According to Dictionary.com a FORUM is: A medium for open discussion or voicing of ideas, such as a newspaper, a radio or television program, or a website. That is what we do here. Sorry for not wanting to "search" and read "through hundreds of HPFP threads" to get an answer to my question. I didn't see a rule book which stated please don't post a new thread about a topic which may have been discussed. Rather, read through "hundreds of threads" to see if you can possibly find the answer. Not all of us sit around with all the time you must have. Again, you have a choice to read a thread and you a BIG choice to waste your time posting a rediculous assult at an individual you don't know for asking a question. I didn't start all this crap and hope it is over with. |

Long cranks are the obvious when a fuel pump starts to fail. Once it's replaced you'll see the cranks go back to nil with instant start-up again.
