What did they prep your car with?

Just picked up my vert today as a PCD. Talked to the detail guy there who told me that all new cars get a coat of wax, depending upon imperfections on the surface, either Meguiars #6 or 26.

Curious what dealers do, if anything.

If you are taking fresh delivery, refuse any detail work and take it to a pro. I have seen and worked next to a dealership detailing...not pretty, super fast, and sub par products are used to cut costs!

+1

On my new Benz, I had to bring it back because they burnt through the paint on some plastic trim with their high speed buffer that had to be replaced. Also, I noticed a couple of placed where they left buffer trails in the black paint. Nothing a nice 2 step polish can't clear up, but still.

While I agree that one shouldn't let the dealership do any new car prep work, the PDC is a totally different animal. I'm sure someone with more experience with the performance delivery center could tell you more about the difference.

Off the top of my head, I know for a fact they have employees whose sole job is to prep cars for performance delivery, which I imagine would make a substantial difference.

yes, PCD is completely different and I'd have no problem letting them prep my car. As far as 99% of the other new BMW deliveries in the US though, if at all possible avoid letting the dealer prep it.

I picked up mine first as a European Delivery, then a Performance Center Delivery. I didn't ask, but when I dropped the car off a few weeks later to have a clear bra installed, the detailer mentioned that the wax was on the hood pretty thick, and he had to do a lot of work to remove it all as part of the prep for the installation.
