DCT owners : how you use DCT for daily drive?
I find myself fiddling between D and S modes as well as shifting from paddle shifts and shifting with DCT stick.
So i am curious how people with higher mileage on the odometer seems to settle with DCT. For clarification : i am asking this for typical daily commute that may include few spirited take offs at red lights etc. 1- D-mode all the time 2- S-mode all the time 3- S-mode most of the time , shifting with paddle shifts, I switch to D-mode only in traffic or feeling lazy 4- S-mode most of the time , shifting with DCT stick , I switch to D-mode only in traffic or feeling lazy 5- Still messing with it and couldn't figure out where i stand Last edited by atolius; 09-16-2010 at 01:42 AM.. |

I usually leave it in D. But when traffic opens up I find the D mode extremely annoying as you really have to floor it to get it to downshift at all and it wants to goto 7th asap.

For above reason i tried to stick to S mode for awhile. However i prefer listening music louder and I cant hear engine noise with my premium system blasting. few times i found myself hitting rev limiter on first gear Coming from a manual shifting with DCT stick feels much natural. I'm still not used paddle shifting but i am sure that is what i will be doing on track or during any other aggressive driving. |

d4 most of the time in the city. i agree that gear changes are more intuitive from the console shifter. the paddles have not fallen to my hand naturally yet but i enjoy the practice

Don't know if D even works in my car. But also the paddle shifters are useless to me except for driving with one hand shifting, and feeling up my girlfriend with the other. Ok seriously one hand on the wheel and the other on the stick is the only way for me to drive. People ask me why I do not talk much while driving.... it is because I am always concentrating on my next move.

Am I the only one that is really surprised with these results? I never thought anyone used the D mode in a car like this. I was defending myself to a friend about why I am getting an exhaust put on a brand new car. His opinion is I just want to get attention and I tried to explain that there are some "drivers" that need to hear and feel what the car is doing at all times and the added performance is also what I am after.... I am too old to give a shit about attention.

I'm coming from an SMG E46 M and the auto mode on that is useless so I got used to S mode quick. Wouldn't drive the E92 any other way..
