Weight of e92 m3 coupe...3470lbs

Hey guys i got my car corner balanced today and my car weights in at 3470 pounds! With a quarter tank of gas!

Car is a 6 speed e92, 2011 model if that matters.

Has anyone else measured their cars? Is it me or am i on the lite side?

This is what I expect from a E92 M3 with 6MT and without too many options such as Navi/premium Sound system etc.

Also Quarter of tank weights ~80 lbs less than 90% tank that BMW uses for DIN weight.

the wheels, suspension, boot lid, and possibly the tires all helped. too bad the chassis itself is so heavy. i get wanting to get the car on a diet. its fun for those of us demented enough to try it. do you track the car much?

Interesting!
That is much lower than the car magazines & BMW's quote.
Do you have the (front right & left) , (rear right & left) each corner's weight?

E92 M3 weights around 1620-1640 kg~3560-3600 lbs in most of the car magazines. They probably weight the car with almost full tank which means as I mentioned before 80 lbs. The lastest ZCP car that has been used by all the Mags. was equipped almost all the options including M-DKG (which weights 55 lbs alone.)

So when you consider these facts, OP's 3470 lbs is pretty spot on.

Yes a light car is a good car, which is why I want to ask you Karussell, how you like your Abarth 500. They finally are bringing a Fiat 500 Sport model to North America and I am getting giddy about it, I'd love to have a Euro style mini hot hatch. Can't wait to test drive!

Thanks

The Abarth is a riot to drive. Its fun to throw in the corners. It has an E-diff thats pretty trick so you can throw the car around very easily. The extremely short wheelbase really helps the car pivot yet its completely stable going 240kph on the autobahn. The suspension is very stiff, much more than the M3 on the hardest setting of EDC. Plenty of storage space with the seats down in back. easy to park it anywhere. I can get 35mpg in it even driving it the way I do. My wife averages over 40mpg.

It still has typical FWD understeer at the limit. needs wider rubber up front and more camber, but its my wife's daily driver so I will leave it alone.

I would recommend waiting for an Abarth in the US though. the standard 1.4L petrol motor in the 500 is quite slow. It will handle fairly decently, but will sorely lack much fun factor. My wife came from an S-54 M Coupe and a 335i. She really wanted a 500 since they were reintroduced in europe. We test drove all of them and she is quite content with the power of the Abarth.

Surprise many a audi owners on the autobahn going by in this mighty mouse. In the snow, this car is way more fun in an open lot and using the e-brake.

hope that helps. sorry to thread jack. pm if you have any questions about it.
