2011 135/ N55 Tuning

Im looking to up my engine's output a bit but am not willing to sacrifice my warranty for it. I know that for the N54's BMW had a power upgrade package from BMW performance but when I look on the site under the 2011's I dont see that.

So my question is: Is there any other tuning that can be done that would not void my warranty and does anyone know if the power kit is available for the N55 and if so is it worth it?

I know Dinan is working on a tune and I'm sure BMW Performance will have one coming out as well. In the mean time you could replace the drop in air filter for about 2-3 hp. You could also replace your axle back exhaust, I honestly can't see them voiding your warranty for that but it will only give you about 5 hp.

The way Dinan products work is if something breaks and BMW won't warranty it Dinan will pay for the repairs. As far as I know most people that have Dinan parts haven't had any problems with BMW warranting their car. That's why the tune is so pricey, your basically paying for a tune and warranty.

I requested the Dinan Stage 2 when I purchased my 2011 N55 135i, and they wrote it into the build sheet (going off the Dinan website for the N54 model), I didnt find out till later that Dinan doesn't offer anything YET for the N55. I have called Dinan more then a few times but received very limited information, all they will say is they are currently working on a tune for the N55.

I am not willing to risk voiding my warranty so at most I will only have two options for a tune, BMW Performance, or Dinan, neither of which are available quite yet.

I plan on going with the Dinan tune, not real sure what the numbers will be for the N55 motor, but I imagine a larger gain from Dinan then BMW

dinan FTW

the BMW tune for the n54 was not worth the price, especially considering that the dinan tune is the same price and gives you about 400% more power than the BMWP tune IIRC

i have also contacted dinan regarding a tune for the n55 but have not gotten much out of them...i cant wait for it to be released !

Is there any evidence or experience to suggest that a GIAC Stage 1 has been caught on a car at the dealership? I know GIAC is working on a tune for the N55, and customer reviews of the tune look very promising. Also, isn't there a big rift between BMW and Dinan going on about warranty and modifications?

As far as N54 tunes:
I have the Dinan stage 2, and a fellow autocrosser has the BMW performance tune. We've both ridden in each others cars and there are slight quirks.

- Dinan tune has throttle oscillation under heavy acceleration coming out of corners because they can't control all the subsystems.
- BMW tune moves some things around in the engine bay, so you may not be able to use all aftermarket addons.

Both make significant gains to the power curve. Both of us are happy with our choices, but they're for the N54. I'm sure similar tunes will be available for N55 soon.

According to many reviews, n54 engine with Dinan stage 2 is significantly faster than with BMW power kit. So i am surprised by your observation. Also, what do you mean by trottle oscillation? Do you mind to elaborate on that a little bit?

Get a piggy back with a cantool and clear all tuner codes. Way cheaper and much more power.

+1. The PPK in Australia for N54 was around 4 grand for +20hp.

PROcede already have a tune out for the N55 and that sells for much cheaper. It has many safeguards built it and code clearing functionality so if anything does go wrong (unlikely) or you need warranty work simply clear the codes and spend 10mins physically removing the chip.

Guaranteed to turn your car to 'shit your pants' fast.
