First Mod...Exhaust Help!

Okay...I'm a mod novice, but I want to upgrade the exhaust on my 2011 E92. I've read alot of posts, but I'm still confused on different options of exhausts...full system (i.e., headers back), bolt on, etc.

What are the pros and cons to each type of system?

What do I need to consider when deciding on a system? I want a nice exotic sound first, hp improvement would be second. What systems cause emission test concerns?

What do people recommend in terms of manufacturers?

Akrapovic. Full headerback titanium. IMO best exhaust out there. Very lightweight, good hp gains

Really your first consideration should be whether you want just the muffler, or a full exhaust system. Then go from there.

I have also searched all over the forums to help me answer thıs questıon, and what I have come to realıze ıs I wıll not be able to make a decısıon untıl I actually hear the dıfferent exhausts ın person. Á vıdeo never does an exhaust justıce.

Also, I know the Akropavıc exhaust ıs pretty kıck ass, but for that prıce you are halfway to a supercharger set-up. I had been lookıng at goıng the bolt on route, but ıt would end up costıng the same, ıf not more, than goıng wıth a ESS SC kıt, and the SC kıt would make more power.

Best advice so far. There are so many variances in sound output and personal preference. I'd recommend going out to a local meet to see if you can hear them in person first.

My vote would go to a Dinan system (surprise! )... Dinan will match the warranty, and the products are very well engineered. I started out with their free-flow exhaust and loved the sound. It is very civil at low rpms, but it will give you a nice growl above 3K... I'd couple that with their air-intake.

For a real hp punch, and noise, add the x-pipe (middle-race-exhaust), and the ECU tune.
I had a full Dinan set-up on my 330ci which is obviously a much different beast than this car, but it was rather mild improvement. Will I not be saying that if I did the full intake, x-pipe, exhuast, and software mod with this car?

Talking a lot of money with Akra... Especially if you go for a full setup.

If you have it, no biggie obviously, but yea it is expensive.

I am in the same boat. Although I am still under warranty and don't really want to do something that will not be covered just yet. Plus, I am going to try to save up for a full Akra system... One of these days

Gintani sport with xpipe. Sound is amazing and great power gains when matched with the OE Tune.

Let me see if I get this straight:

1. the exhaust system has 2 sets of catalytic converters (total of 4).
2. the front cat and the back cats.
3. using a straight pipe to delete your front cats would improve hp/torque and should be relatively cheap (how hard is it to build a pipe with no cats in it).
4. not sure: this might raise some bmw sirens, ecu, computers freaking out. who knows.
5. Spend a bunch of money and replace the front set of pipes and cats with high flow cats, more hp, but you don't freak out the computers.
6. spend a bunch more money and get a legit system (4 cats) all the way to the muffler, possibly lighter weight, possibly higher flow, most power.

Not sure where the X pipe comes in, doesn't the stock exhaust already have an X pipe ?

I would be tempted to just replace the front cats with a straight pipe (== x pipe?). Least cost, more gains, better bang for buck methinks.

Hopefully you guys know tons more about this than I do. I would love a guide, if such a thing exists.

Best,

Dan

Depends on your tolerance to the drone or "resonance" if you will on these V8s. I am pretty sensitive so I got Dinan. Akropovic would be my first choice but too much $$$. I went through two other exhausts before the Dinan. I have AA X-pipe with HFCs and the sound level is still very tolerable. No funny looks from cops when I drive by them. People say the X-pipe adds tons of volume but not for me. Only hear it when I get on it.

The eisenmann sport is nice too. Good luck, its a fun decision.

Anyone who would spend that much money on the Akrapovic Evolution exhaust is fricking insane. There has to be better things to spend money on...retarded.

I will be ordering mine in about two weeks at G-power and hopefully getting it installed there as well.
