I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK.. knocking sound

ok its been a while i have been hearing a knocking sound coming from the passenger engine side of the car... at first it sounds like engine knock but its on and off sometimes i hear it on cold but most of the time i hear it when driving for a while.

i know theres a thread about this but i just couldnt find it. i Brought it to the dealer and said that its normal for an M3 he said it was the fuel pump... not sure if i would take that as an answer but i just a bit concerned...

You're going to have to be more specific man. Is it continuous knock, like if the engine was knocking? Or a single knock spaced every second? And where exactly do you hear it in the 'passenger' side? In the firewall, under the car, or towards the rear? If it's the fuel pump, it'd knock with the car idling, so you should be able to determine that by walking around the car and putting your ear on all 4 wheel wheels, and under the car. If it's only when driving, it's probably going to be drivetrain or suspension related. And no, I haven't read of any threads resembling what you have so far described. Good luck.

Is your car stock??
I had the Evosport pulley on my car.car ran great and about 3 days i started hearing a knocking noise.
make long story short,i used the stock bolts to mount the evosport pulley and they were longer than the ones supplied with the after market pulley and that caused the pulley to play and not bein tight.and that was my "knocking noise"

To the OP, I have had a knocking/ticking sound from the Driver's side at 5,000 miles. BMW NA Service Rep investigated. They drained the motor oil and measured the quantity (it had just been to the Dealer a week before for it's 2nd oil change). They determined the oil was too low. It measured 1/2 down on electronic dipstick. I still have the sound but it's not as loud with full oil and with warm engine. Was told everything checked out and engine is fine. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck with your engine. Request the BMW NA Service Rep to investigate if you are concerned. If nothing else, it gets added to your maintenance file that they checked and confirmed everything is fine.

Excellent, glad to hear it! If you find out what it was, please post. I'm still curious about it myself.
