Commemorative Plaque

I have just been told by my dealer who has just got back from a BMW new product training day that each UK car will be supplied with a BMW 1 M Commemorative Plaque in the cabin to show that the car is 1 of 450. Apparently it will not show the build number eg 35 of 450 which I think is a good thing in a way?

I have seen the plaque.

It's very nice, and I can confirm it's not individually numbered.

Huh? Every car will be 1/450?
But that's more a joke, who wants that?

I sure they are just getting all the juice out of the fact it is a "1"
"Year One of the 1"
"1 of 450"
My buddy has one of those orange scions and it is something like 1092 of 2000
If it were another number they would have done it the usual way.

I understand what you mean I think. Are you saying that 300/450 for example would be more personal to the car and therefore better?

I sort of share that view however by making all of them 1/450 it is purely saying that this is a limited edition car and does not in any way in the future lead to price variations between 10/450 & 440/450 which is also a good thing. I kind of like that to.

Interesting, that pretty much says there are no plans to extend production further. Speaking to various dealers, they seem to suggest that BMW has left the door slightly ajar for a potential extension in 2012 (for the US that is, where I don't believe cars will have a plaque as production is not fixed by a certain number, like seems to the case in the UK).

Good point

Before putting my deposit down I did raise this issue with my dealer as in the past I purchased a Subaru Impreza P1 No.475 of 500 (light weight 2 Door UK car) thinking it would be an ok investment and that I would not loose too much money on the car only to find that Prodrive sold out quicker than expected so decided to produce an extra 500 cars! Resale went down the pan over night

My dealer has assured me that this will not be the case with the BMW 1 M.

Hoping that's indeed the case for you!

The Impreza case is certainly thumbs down. So what did they do with the 2nd batch of 500, did they issue new plaques indicating 1000, or was it a different color plaque also showing the 'new' 500 allotment?

I think this is common in various car makes. Even high end cars.
Look at the ALL PRESTIGIOUS FERRARI "ENZO" supercar for example. It originally came out in a limited edition of only 349 pieces. Well, customers were out of luck because this car sold out almost immediately! Guess what? Ferrari got a lot of gripe from customers who wanted one, and then, they built more. There are a little over 400 built now.
It happens....
I think that it is a nice little bonus that the UK cars will be getting a plaque. Makes it that much more special....

The cars officially only came with a build number plaque that was not offset against a total and this was situated under the bonnet showing weight and a few other parameters so no need to change format / colour. Unofficially the P1 members club got 1000 plaques made for the cars as an after market option to stick in the coin tray and these became the plaques everyone knew about leaving many owners unaware of the official plaque under the bonnet!
