Why is BMW doing allocation like they are?

I'm 1st on my dealers list... but that does that mean?
It mean's my deposit money is tied up for an undetermined amount of time, and maybe for no reason.

I want to get a 1M but I don't know when it will happen, if it will happen and neither does my dealer. They can't get information on allocation time or allocation at all. Wanting ED I need to plan with my wife for her time off work and we cannot do that at the drop of a hat.

Has BMW done this before in the past with other cars?
It seems very un-organized and poorly planned to me.

So is there really any reason BMW doesn't just say we are making 1200 for the US, There are X dealers, here is how we are going to deliver them?

Honestly this is a huge turn off trying to buy one of these and not knowing if I'm going to get a car at all, and apparently from the forum I wont know for almost a 1/2 a year longer?!?!?

I'm with you. Supposedly the next allocations will be announced this coming Monday/Tuesday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
