What do you guys use to seal/protect the roof?

There is alot of debate on the UK Z4 forum about the best way to protect the fabric roof.

Many use the BMW protector while others use things like auto glym roof sealant.

The BMW stuff doesn't seal it, it lets water through as the waterproof layer is apparently underneath. I wondered what you lot on the other side of the pond used?

Thanks

Matt

I use the BMW stuff, both the cleaner and the sealant.

Only thing I do differently, is that for the sealant I only use a cap full of the stuff (diluted in the same ratio). The instructions indicate that you should use the whole bottle and that's a huge waste.

Slingshots work as well. You can find all kinds of things lying around to lob at them.

Not as accurate + you'll probably end up shooting out your window

but honestly, the best way to prevent bird crap is to NOT park under trees, if possible

I'm on the "other" side of the pond, and -- from the same folks who brought us 303 Aerospace Protectant -- I use:

303 Tonneau and Convertible Top Cleaner
http://www.303products.com/shop303/i...op-cleaner.cfm

followed by (and this is the money part!)

303 High Tech Fabric Guard
http://www.303products.com/shop303/i...bric-guard.cfm

Notwithstanding the directions, I use a 3" paintbrush to apply the HTFG, as the pump sprayer results in too much overspray.

This stuff is incredible.

I'm in the same camp! I tried RaggTopp and the aerosol can was expensive and for my untreated top only gave me 2.5 coats. I ordered 303 Fabric Guard, Fabric Cleaner and Aerospace Protectant for my dashboard. The make a GREAT products. The pump spray results in less overspray and there's no fumes in the garage.

I've been meaning to write a review on the the product. Protects well agains water and bird crap (I use a grout sponge to clean). I've applied maybe 3 thick coats and only used about 1/8 the bottle. I also used that stuff to treat a winder jacket. Works awesome.

Here's a picture after driving my car in the rain all day, then parking my car overnight in my garage. Next morning the water was still beading!

+1 on Gummi-Pflege, works really well on all rubber seals: trunk, windows, doors, etc.
