Holy Crap! My October Build Date Was Just Moved To May!!
Good news you might say. Not if you just bought a Cayman S 6 weeks ago! I thought I had until September to make this decision but my guy called today with the news.
Has anyone else had their build date change (by 5 months)? Man I goota decide by tomorrow. So, keep the Porsche or trade in for the 1M? Both? Not happening. |

i wish i had your problems lol. but ya tough choice. i think the cayman will shine on the track but the 1m will be more flexible and easier to live with in day2day driving. the 1m also probably gets better gas mileage and has more room for extra hp when you get bored.

depends on what your needs are and what you will use the ride for....will it be a track car? a commuter?
track = Porsche (in this comparison) commuter= BMW 1M (best of both worlds, performance oriented with a usuable back seat and semi comfort) |

A bizarre twist of fate to be sure. I'm waiting to see how much the dealer will offer on a trade for the CS. I just bought it 6 weeks ago I'm not gonna take a hit $ wise. If they somehow offer me what I have in the CS I may bite.
The idea of trading build dates is intriquing but since I have a $1000 below msrp deal I don't relish the idea of paying an extra $1000 just to wait a few months. The CS is a weekend toy. I have a Lexus IS as a daily driver. The flexibility aspect of the 1M doesn't interest me. It's all about the "fun" factor. Is it $15k more fun than the CS? That's what I'll need to shell out to make this happen. Selling the CS outright just won't happen in a month. Too many out there. |

Lol, dude I just responded to your email this morning and pretty much said the same as everyone else here (great minds eh? )
I think it can be boiled down to this... there really is no wrong answer here. It's simply a matter of which car works best for you Good luck

I hope that your situation is different, but I don't want you to go through the same frustration I did if things don't happen for May. I'd hold onto that Cayman until you see a car on a boat if I were you... D |

I look at this from a slightly different point of view.
A chance to get a 1M single year production car vs a Cayman that you can order or buy off the lot anytime? The 1M is sure to be an instant collectors car while the Cayman is just another Cayman out there. Not to mention the rediculous price of the Cayman Option List. $1560 for Xenon lights on a car with a base price of $63,000 for Gods sake??? By the time you add some options to make the car more than just an engine and steering wheel you will end up paying $70K Plus for just another Cayman. I say wait for the BMW, if you don't get one buy a used 2009 Cayman S for $55K and be happy as if you bought a new one for $70K

Interesting dilemma for sure...I too, as it was mentioned above, would wait until the 1M was on a boat to let the CS go...
On a side note, if this move up in production dates is true--what could that mean? Are BMW selling less of these than anticipated? Are they making more? What gives?

Maybe someone further up the list backed out and pushed him up?

You aren't obligated to buy until you signed the paper and in Cali dealer have to return the initial deposit if purchase don't go through. It won't be another 2-3 month before you see the car. Since they changed the schedule on you I wouldn't feel bad to show intent to purchase now and cancel later if situation doesnt pan out

Seems like no dilemma at all... the OP couldn't wait and bought a Cayman and would lose a bundle to take delivery on the 1M. In a cruel twist of fate, sounds like somone ahead dropped out. but know that it has happened, sounds like it's time for the OP to raise up off that allocation and let a deserving individual in line make a purchase.

Do you have your Cayman S already?
I think the main point is: Do you need the additional seats and the additional space from the 1M? If yes, why did you order the Cayman in the first place. If no, why the heck should you switch to the 1M? It depends a little bit on the options in the Porsche. Do you have the sport seats at last, do you have the leather interior or what about PASM and the sport exhaust system? Put that stuff into that car and I can't see any reason at all not to choose the Cayman S. |
