Great day at Goodwood

Just back from Goodwood. Drove M3 coupe, M3 Cab, Alpina 5 series and 1M around the race track and then a M3 up the hill at Goodwood. Also got taken around the race track by Tiff Needell for some hot laps- all very sideways!!!

Instruction given by a race driver who sat with you allowed trying the cars on the track with traction removed. Amazing how much quicker the 1M in particular gets the power down out of corners with traction off. Anyone risk driving their 1M on the road with traction off??

A fantastic day as a guest of BMW.

All I got was complementary posh sausage sarnies and croissants, champagne, coffee and free drinks. :-) Could not convince anyone in the BMW areas to let me out in a car. Everything was pre-booked by invitation only. :-( They had a couple of M3s and I think two VO and an AW 1M going up the hill all day, driven by BMW drivers. The 1Ms sounded good going by. The best sounds going up the hill though were the Audi R8s. Gaz26 you did good getting those drives. Jealous? Me? Goodwood is so good.

Thanks sorry you didnt get a drive. Agree the R8s made a fantastic noise. On the hill the BMW driver had to drive for 200 yards in the 'public' area then if you wanted to he would swap seats and you could take it to the start line, then blast up the hill. On the race track the hot laps with Tiff Needell were just like his TV programme in the UK called Fifth Gear. 140 mph down the straight throwing it sideways at 100 mph on some corners then doing a massive power slide- with lots of smell from burning rubber and brakes!!

I thought I did pretty well driving my laps until I went out with him !!

hey way to go gaz...sounds like you had a blast there...just got back from goodwood too...had a great day and saw some amazing motors...the best bit was driving my 1M all the way there and back

i also had a face full of tyre smoke when the VO 1M took off...loved it

Were you there by dealer invitation / free tickets / go to the circuit, or just in the wave yout key / go into the pavillion thing?

@clived. I got an email from BMW News a month or so ago offering FOS tickets to first 25 to reply so I replied and got 2 free tickets and sponsors badges so were able to get in the pavilion, BMW stand early for breakfast and into the main house.
