Aside from shifting improvent, has the mod resolved the occassional rough or abrupt disengagement of the tranny during clutch-in while coasting in 1st at low rpm? It is often felt as a "thud" when shifting from 1st to neutral.

Does this change the function of the hill assist where if you are on the brake and let go on a hill, the car will not roll for the first 1-2 seconds after you let off the brake?

+1. Everything works the same... just that there is no delay or jerkyness when you step on/off of the clutch pedal. This is really a must have mod for any 6MT BMW.
You can just unplug the CDV cartridge/tube and plug in the hydraulic line back together. But I ordered an extra CDV, took a 3mm punch and reamed out the CDV jet. Then I installed the "hollow" CDV in my car - for that stealth look. That way BMW can't say or notice a thing! The CDV is cheap at around $10 at your dealer. see my post #97 and onwards... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...cdv+delete+diy Dackel |

as a start "During normal, sedate driving, the shift from first into second gear is often jerky, leading passengers to question your skill. As the driver, you can see your passengers' heads bobbing back and forth during every shift! Yes, in their minds, they are laughing at you." by the way this totally happend to me when I got my first bmw 6MT - my buddy's head bobbed, then he laughed his ass off. Of course I had no idea what was causing at the time. Thats my story and Im sticking to it

Another thing, does the cdv action on the 1M feel the same as on a 135i? I drove a 135 on a 30 minute test drive and had no problem with clutch feel at all. If it's about the same I guess I won't even worry about it.

The bellow photo should show you which end to use the punch on... insert a 3mm punch (or the like) into the small end,.. then gently tap with a small hammer. The restrictor/jet will pop out. Then install your modified CDV. |

^^Actually... I used a special hose clamping tool(see my photos in the above CDV DIY link) on my CDV feed line... it did not stop teh flow of brake fluid at all. I think IF I had to do the install again... I would use a (short)rubber or clear hose zip-tied shut on one end and I would slip it over the hydraulic line that you unplug when you install the CDV. Brake fluid seems to really pour out - and brake fluid always feels so wierd on your skin/hands. My special crimp tool did not seem to work bc think the CDV's hydraulic feed line has a hard inner hose that can't be crimped.

I had a very small amount of brake fluid leak out only. Car feels great now btw without that pesky CDV. |
