Is Buttonwillow a training thing? If it's an open track day I'll go, but I don't want to do a training course.

Yeah, it is a training thing. It's not all hold-your-hand though, from what I gathered when talking to the dude on the phone.

He said there's a short class session and in the first session you're required to be with an instructor so that he can evaluate your skills (everyone gets 1 on 1 instruction). After that, every session you can be on your own if you want. I was told maximum 60 cars in 3 run groups, but they're anticipating around 30 cars in 2 run groups. He said there should be plenty of track time. Yay.
