What I've heard

I have read the rumor is no. Makes sense to me since those really going for lightweight will certainly opt for the coupe only. The extra weight on the sedan anyway from making it four doors would kind of make all the expense of the CF roof an excess and a bit contradictory in the overall design.

actually to correct you the sedan is lighter than the coupe... especially for the E46 the Sedans were better performers than the Coupes...

Im just thinking the reason they are not putting CF roof on the sedan is because they want to even the handling of the coupe and sedan becasue the suspension of the sedan is tighter...

Any E46 Fanatics here to back me up on this?

No, that's wrong for the E90/92. The E92 335 is 10kg lighter than the sedan. And I don't know if the sedan's supension is stiffer, but the handling of the Coupe is better than the sedan's according to most of the tests...
The reason for not putting the CF roof on the sedan is that the Coupe is the "top of the range" M3 so it gets the CF roof whereas the M3 sedan is marketed a lil' bit under the coupe. So if your only concern is handling, your only choice is the Coupe...

Best regards, south

I don't have the answer. However, I want the sedan WITH the sunroof, so if they don't offer the CF roof on the e90 M3 that's OK with me

The source for the weight difference? You can check it on the BMW page. Referring the CF roof, that's what Scott said some time ago. I can search for that if you don't find it...

E90 335i sedan is about 23lbs heavier than the similar equipped E92 335i coupe according to the specs. If BMW utilizes all light weight material on all panels, it would be interesting to know what's the weight difference saved between M3 sedan/coupe. As far as I know sedan has got the larger roof surface area, if it uses CF, it will safe more weight in theory, though the net weight should still be slightly heavier than coupe.

Car and Driver says no carbon fiber roof. But it appears their reasoning is flawed, because coupes were seen testing with a sunroof also...

"The spy shots also caught an open sunroof, which suggests the more practical sedan will forgo the extreme weight-saving carbon-fiber roof of the coupe."

no the source I was looking for is the source on how the Sedan 335 is worst than the coupe 335 in testing....

thats all...
Because BMW followed the same tradition .. the E36 sedan was a better performer than the E36 coupe, the E46 sedan was a better than E46 coupe...

i'm just curious, there is no disrespect to anybody

that shouldn't really surprise you

the e92 335i:
weighs 3571 lbs.
has 51.2/48.8 front/rear weight distribution
has greater structural rigidity by nature of being a 2 door vehicle
sits at 54.9 inches (lower center of gravity)

the e90 335i :
weighs 3594 lbs.
has 51.5/ 48.5 front/rear weight distirbution
and has less structural rigidity with 4 doors.
sits at 55.9 inches
