Thumbs up AW/FR E90 M3 Performance Center Delivery Writeup/Pics

First off-I'd like to thank all of you on m3post.com for being instrumental in my research into my second //M. This truly is a fellowship of enthusiasts.

Introduction

6 months ago I started off on a journey to replace my E46 M3. The E46 was a blast to drive and needless to say the S54 screaming at the top end was an anthem to rock away my blues any day-anytime. BUT it was time to replace it.
I was getting married soon and could not keep a car that my wifey could not drive. It was time to move on to something more civil and dare I say-practical.

A test drive of the car led me to believe how stiff the suspension was compared to the old one. Icing on the cake was the Jekyll and Hyde personality that was even more pronounced now thanks to the added refinement & the S65 integrated so well with the chassis. It was time to put a deposit down and check of an options list.

Where M3post comes in...

I searched countless pictures and read about the options here before I elected mine. I chose the E90 simply because IMO it looked better than the E92 with that bulldog stance that I appreciated in my E46 M3. No offense to E92 owners-you guys have a beautiful car too but it just wasn't for me. The additional doors with all the promise of practicality and aesthetics beckoned.

ELECTION:
ALPINE WHITE
FOX RED INTERIOR
MDCT
NO EDC (Got the Normal mode as standard suspension)
19' FORGED WHEELS
CONVENIENCE PKGE (Navigation,PDC, AntiTheft etc..)
IPOD/USB
SPLIT FOLDING REAR SEATS
HEATED SEATS

Next up- I needed a sales associate who can help me put the order in. I found David Aviles through this forum. People spoke highly of both Ryan and David. Considering David is local and also provided me with the best price- I went with him. David's price simply could not be beat by anyone. The fact that he is straightforward and no BS made him my designated go-to-guy for all things ///M. (Pics of David and his Fire Orange E90 M3 further down)

I specified that I wanted to do a performance center delivery of the car. David plugged it in and we were good to go.

Once we finalized the order-the wait was next. Considering I was busy with the wedding planning-the wait didn't seem so bad. My wedding took place the same day hurricane Irene hit the Mid-Altantic. Thankfully we dodged the hurricane by 2 hours. Our wedding was over by 4pm and this was when the rain was simply starting near the Philly area.

My car arrived at the port of Baltimore on my wedding day and sat there for a week before being transported down to SC for the PCD. The big day was going to be 9/22. I could hardly wait.

9/20: Northwest BMW

I met up with David, Bob Harris and Joy Chilcoat at Northwest BMW for paperwork.

9/21-9/22-Destination:SC

Me and my wife flew Southwest into Greenville on 9/21 where we were greeted at the airport by the Greenville Marriot 5 series GT which we rode to the hotel (only 7 minutes away).

Needless to say our stay at the hotel was excellent. Some pics below.

9/22-THE BIG DAY

It started off as a rainy day but that did not dampen my spirits. The Marriot shuttle took us to the Performance Center. Our itinery for the day was to start promptly at 8am.

As soon as we pulled in to the front lobby. Guess what awaited us??? My heart skipped a few beats when I saw this gorgeous Alpine White/Fox Red E90 M3 chillaxin' and about to greet us as we walked in. It was simply stunning! I think both mine and my wife's jaw dropped-it was love at first sight... and the best part was that it was ours

Next up-was the classroom hosted by YES-Donnie Isley! Donnie explained BMW's braking prowess and what the different technologies entailed as far as keeping the driver safe while amplifying fun at their discretion.

After that was over-it was my favorite part next. Me and the wife were to sit in one their M3's and blitz up and down the track to perform braking exercises, testing DSC on/off but best of all-TRACK TIME!!! Boy-did I rev the nuts out of our M3, Donnie told me to keep my foot planted in the oh-so-sweet right pedal while I danced the car away around the track. Rain? What Rain?

Our AW/Comp Pkge M3 for the morning

Brake-Away

After we had fun in our designated NYC (Not Your Car)-we were then going to have Donnie do a hot lap in the M5.

A few more shots-notice the 1M's parked on the far side of the track? (Don't worry-these cars were intentionally slipping and sliding by the instructors to give the passengers a lot of oh-$#@! moments)

Needless to say-it was awesome. Here's a pic of me, Donnie and some random shots [I know-you've all been waiting ]

I took a lot of random shots around the track. My wife prolly thought I was nuts but hey-I was kid in a candy store that day.

After all that good fun-the group was split up into two-one was to do the X3/X5 off road course and while others were scheduled for the product delivery. Me and my wife were scheduled for the latter. The time had arrived and my wait was finally over!

Theresa "Willie" Hammons was to be our specialist and we couldn't have been happier. She was a sweetheart and guided me and my wifey through all of the cars functions. (Although Willie-we still can't get the voice command right )

After that-the car was ready to be pulled out

Guess who finally handed me the keys-

And with the key handed to us-we then proceeded for lunch followed by the X5 offroad course.

After that exercise-the group took their cars to the Zentrum and the Factory Tour. We took a few pics there but no camera/cell phone is allowed into the factory. The factory tour was breathtaking with the efficient and uber-intelligent robots simply working away at each BMW X. Definitely worth it! My wife is sold on the X3 and pretty soon I see another performance delivery coming our way

Our itinery was done at 3p. I took a few pics in front of the Zentrum before we left.

We departed for Germany after the tour.

Just kidding-we departed for VA Beach/Busch Gardens where we had lots of fun. We pretty much hit every single ride with no lines thanks to kids being back in school.

Summary
This was an amazing trip to pick up our M3. I couldn't have done it any other way. All we needed to do was to schedule a long weekend. The people at the ///M Performance Center are so grounded and humble about the awesome jobs they have. Kudos to all the folks there especially Donnie and Willie for making our delivery the best ever.

Special thanks goes to the team at Northwest BMW:

DAVID AVILES (Also the owner of the gorgeous Fire Orange M3 sedan)

JOY CHILCOAT (Had a bada$$ M5 most recently)

BOB HARRIS (Owner of a M6)

Cheers to you all!

Parting shots:

First Fuel Stop:

Since my pick up last week-the car has 1000 miles on the clock. Had the 1200 mile service done two days ago.

Congrats on the beautiful new M3! Thanks for sharing your experience with us. And there's no one better (or more enthusiastic) than Donnie to take you around the track

Great write up Sanjay. I was getting excited just by reading the post and looking at the pics so I can imagine how fun and exciting it must be to experience it in person. Congrats on the car. What a great wedding gift to yourself Can't wait to check it out in person and once the break-in period is over so we can test it against my M5

Happy and safe driving.

Cheers!

OMG... congrats Sanjay!!!! Love the pics, love the new M3, and you and your newlywed wife make a beautiful couple!!

We'll definitely have to meet up sometime and bring our wives too. Seeing your pics makes me wish I could have gotten my E92 M3 thru PCD with my wife (as I originally planned to) AND also keep my 323i, but unfortunately I couldn't do both so I'll be enjoying my 323i in its new color.

Enjoy your new M3 and married life in the very best of health!!

Congrats, I picked up my M3 at the performance center back in July. I also had Donnie as my instructor. Definitely an amazing experience.

I partied a little too hard in downtown Greenville the night before though, ended up puking in the grass by the skidpad.

Looks like a blast and beautiful car!

Just to clarify for you however is: No EDC is NOT the same as normal mode on cars with EDC. Actually is extremely different.

EDC normal mode (and sport with zcp package) is a variable suspension that is constantly adjusted by the computer using the dampers to vary the stiffness based on road conditions and g-forces etc.

Non-EDC cars obviously have no active suspension and is simply traditional struts etc.

I have no-edc and I think its great but if you drive both you realize there is a big difference in edc normal and non-edc cars. Either way not a huge deal for most!

I completely agree Ateam. The reason I went for no-EDC was because at some point down the road-I'm planning to install coilovers. Also the prospect of owning this car after the warranty is over is easier especially as it relates to struts (should I want to leave it bone stock). An EDC strut costs at least $400 more than the non-EDC strut which certainly validates me not opting for it

Having driven already 1000 miles on my car (I know its only been a week ..I have no regrets)

By the way-I got my 1200 mile service already done two days ago.

Hey buddy! Congrats on the pickup! My biggest regret when delivering our E90 M3 was not doing either a European or Performance Center Delivery. Great photo coverage and write up! Hopefully in my next purchase, I'll have some time to do either type of delivery.

I love your choice on minimal options!

Enjoy the car!

Great write up. I was just talking to another forum member just now at the dealership who saw the pics. I still can't see them from work, (had to use my phone) but thank you so much for the kind words. I really enjoyed working with you and the Mrs.

Let me know when you do the mods and we can get a shoot with both our e90 M3s.

All the best,
David
