Depends on where you live, if it is legal I would say YES. I have friends in OR that use them each Winter, but their concern is not deep snow, it is ice and light snow. I have had two accidents, albeit minor, over 20 yrs of driving in the Winter and both were due to 'black ice'. Nothing works better than studs on black ice.

One more note...also depends on the speed rating. I assume the hP & torque of the 135i might be too much for studs? Self control would be a must or else you will eject the studs.

I doubt if the studs would eject, but you might be able to create some sparks on dry pavement.

Studs were design for ice not for snow.
They are very good on ice............ do the 4 wheels.
Back home they have to be of the road by the end of Aprril.

Not necessary unless you live in the great white north and have constant snow or ice on the road. I would imagine they would be noisy as hell at highway speed.

Where do you live?

I never have had an issue with the lake effect stuff in the Syracuse region and in the mountains upstate (I got myself into a snowbank once but that was due to me being an idiot, not the capabilities of the car) on my dunlop D3s and previous my Pirelli 240s.

I never really see them as necessary unless youre an iceroad trucker or something. The car is really manageable in most snow and ice conditions so long as you know how to drive it. Just have a quick learning to drive montage in a parking lot and youll be fine without em.

We've had studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5s on our car in winter since new (picked it up in late December 2006), running a square 205 setup.

Granted, in the Nokian's, there is a cushioning pad behind the stud to limit the contact pressure when on dry roads, but I really don't find them that noisy (as the BMW is so quiet to begin with), and now in their fourth winter, they're still holding up well.

How studs, installed after the fact, will hold up is anybody's guess...as I don't think that the can match the specific design features that come inherint in the Nokians, thus YMMV.

I've discovered that beginning the post with "Agreed", "Exactly", "+1", etc., generally helps to eliminate these misunderstandings.
