Expert Tire Reneging On Making Things Right

Short summary of events to date:

1) Had tires sent to Expert Tire from tirerack.com to be installed. 11,000 miles on odometer when brought car in on 11/29.

2) Got car back with dinged and scratched rims. Car smelled like someone had been smoking in it. Odometer had 11,015 miles on it. Most of the electronics had been reset in car.

3) Car gets detailed at local professional shop every few weeks. Brought car in 2 days after tire change on 12/1, detailer identified many new paint chips as if car had been spinning wheels on gravel. Detailer had taken pictures of car on last visit a few weeks ago and the paint chipping now present was not there.

4) Manager hard to get hold of ( Joy stated manager is having family issues, and had been out recently. I hope nothing serious.) Hopefully he wasn't there for the joy ride that someone had with the car.

5) Expert Tire offered to look into matter.

6)Adjuster evaluates car. States only 2 wheels consistent with damage from Expert Tire's machine.

7)Expert Tire offers to replace only two of the four wheels, denies reimbursement to get paint fixed because they don't know who caused the damage.

Original post here:http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=617689

What would you do in this situation? Pursue the matter further, take the money, walk away all together? Luckily I don't need the money to get this fixed on my own.

Thanks for the support all.

That's horrible. Sucks you can't trust anyone these days. What does Tire Rack have to say about this service?

I haven't told Tire Rack about it yet. Was holding back on putting out bad reviews online because I thought Expert Tire might just have one bad store and it looked like they were going to make things right.

Not sure what Tire Rack could do. Maybe not list Expert Tire as a recommended installer? Don't know if they would do that with one bad outcome. But it might be worth letting them know anyway.

Time to start leaving reviews online. I'll tart contacting the lawyers, that our prctice retains, this coming week. Sigh, thought maybe this could be avoided, but I'm guessing that is what Expert Tire expects everyone to do. That is no one will hold them accountable.

It wouldn't hurt. Maybe they will have some insight.

Chopper sick balls!

Seriously, if you are *sure* they went for a joyride and caused the damage...I would show them no mercy unless they are willing to make it right.

Don't let up!

But...this is why I stay away from chain stores. Or, if I use a chain store, I carry the tires in and leave my car on jack stands at my house.

Left a review online at tire rack, regarding what happened to my car. Tire rack then posted under my review that they were contacting Firestone/Expert Tire to have them rectify the situation.

Nothing new happened and my review was taken down. I'm guessing Expert Tire told Tire Rack everything was resolved since they offered to replace two of the four wheels they damaged. Expert Tire did not even address the issue of their employees taking my car for a joy ride and damaging the paint, as described above.

I have a call into Tire Rack to let them know that Expert Tire did NOT in fact rectify the situation.

WTF, they had the review pulled down? I always thought Tire Rack was a damn straight company but this has got me second guessing. Contact Ben@TireRack? At least he's on these boards and can check this thread in addition to the previous one you created.

Considering you don't need the money, you must obviously not be on a time constraint either, so I would go all out and give 'em exactly what they deserve.

Contacting Ben is a good idea.

Not ready to tag Tire Rack with the same brush as expert Tire yet. I'm hoping Tire Rack just got the same run around I'm getting from Expert Tire. I'll give Tire Rack the opportunity to look at the whole picture, not just what Expert Tire told them. I Have a call into Tire Rack. Holiday will likely slow things down. Don't want ruin anyone's Holiday over this.

Call a lawyer. It looks like whatever you are doing isn't getting what you deserve. Time to get things serious

It might come to that. Have a few inquires out and lawyers waiting to see what I want to do. Not afraid to unleash the "dogs of war", but giving everyone involved chance to avoid that.

Sorry to hear about this problem. The mileage discrepancy seems very suspicious. I don't know what constitutes 'proof' of a joyride, but the combination of things that you noted: smell, miles, and gravel damage certainly would raise red flags to me.

With regard to the adjuster, was it someone from their insurance company? Or someone agreed upon between you and the shop? From reading your post, it seems like they think, or want to think, that the adjuster's evaluation settles the matter.

If you can email me with your order info, I'll be happy to help however I can. For a first step, I can pass the information along to the head of our recommended installer program along with the info on this thread.

Yes the adjuster was hired by Expert Tire. It appears they are using only a portion of the findings and in a very limited sense. Expert Tire says the report states that only two of the tires could have been damaged by the machine they use to change the tires. However, Expert Tire does not mention the other tools used during the service, and don't mention the the paint damage at all. The adjuster's report most likely includes the other aspcts of the damage. I have not seen the adjuster's report myself, but likely Expert Tire is cherry picking the findings with regard to just one machine and not everything that was done.

I will send off an email to you.

Thanks Ben.

Thanks Ben.
Got your email, and fwd to the head of the installer program. He advised that the mileage plus the photographic documentation that you mention would make a good case for small claims court.

Their reply to our inquiries made as if the wheels had already been replaced and the matter was resolved.

If you have not signed any papers for the two replacement wheels, hold off on doing so, as that could undermine your ability to seek additional reimbursement. Generally, signing that paperwork indicates that all signing parties regard the settlement as satisfactory.

This is of course general advice, and should not be taken as a substitute for legal counsel.

I emailed this same info. If I can help in any other way, let me know.

Update from Greg, no wheels replaced to date, contrary to what the installer had advised us here.

Looks like we are at a dead end with Expert Tire. Therefore In discussion with a lawyer now. I'll update everyone as things progress.

Bottom line, I will be letting everyone I know to stay away from Expert Tire.

Expert Tire offered to replace two of the four damaged wheels. Ignored the damage to the car's paint from the joy ride.

What they did do after Tire Rack contacted them, is report to Tire Rack that the situation had been resolved because 2 wheels had been replaced. Which is of course false. Only an inadequate offer had been made by Expert Tire to cover less than 1/3 of the damage.

I have notified Tire Rack about Expert Tire's lack of honesty in reporting the situation as you can see from Ben's last post.
