Unusual wear on front tires
Hey guys,
I own an 09 M3 (alpine white coupe ) and was driving on the freeway the other day, when i heard a big bang, and the front right tire pretty much gave away (pics attached). I had to call BMW roadside assistance, and they tow'ed my car to the shop. After putting her on a lift, we realized the front left had unusual thread separation (these are the stock continental sport contact 3's), and had to replace both the front tires, and the front right rim because its warped. My car is back and functional now, and we are good to go. My questions are, 1) Anyone seen thread wear like this? What could have caused it? Alignment issues? Front left wear: View post on imgur.com View post on imgur.com Front right tire (blown up): View post on imgur.com View post on imgur.com View post on imgur.com 2) Is there anything I can do with the old rim. Repair it? Sell it? I'm in the bay area/California region. Thanks! p.s.: The pics weren't showing up before, so I reposted as urls. Last edited by rolexel; 01-03-2012 at 04:00 PM.. |

Alignment would do it but you have even wear.
Underinflation could do it but your tpms should have told you that. Could be tire rot depending on how long they sat. Im gonna go with inflation issues
